    Do I need a Negative Pump….

Salamander do a negative head kit for that pump, RCM 3 is the product code, cheaper than a new pump!!! :) http://www.h-i-e.co.uk/acatalog/Right_RHP.html

    Insulating Electric Underfloor Heating

I currently have electric undefloor heating in my conservatory under a laminate floor. My wife now wants me to replace this with Karndean going through to my kitchen. The heating mat current sits on an insulating foam underlay but as the Karndean will required a screeded floor this is not...

    Karndean vs Lotus Flooring

I need a new floor covering for my kitchen, Direct Floors are offering Lotus flooring as a direct equivalent to Karndean Van Gogh, has anyone used it and if so, is it any good? Also, is there any fitters in the North Yorks (Harrogate) area that would be interested in a bit of work or can...

    Oil usage + scrappage/new boiler

cheers for the replies, down to around 150-200 litres so 75 hours or so at the last guess. Bugger, think I'll have to bite the bullet and order some. Any thoughts on a new boiler, heard good things about the firebird but is it really that much more efficient than what I have

    Oil usage + scrappage/new boiler

Anyone got a rough idea of hourly usage of a Worcester 12/14 boiler assuming it's running constantly, I'm running a little low on oil but refuse to pay the current 50p/litre as it'll be back down to 35p in a month. However if I do run out the wife give me some serious grief :!: :( Also, the...

Underfloor heating - is it possible with my current boiler

thanks for the interesting comments, i've discounted using electric as I have it in two rooms in the house already and its bleeding expensive to run. The floor will have to come up as it's solid concrete and uninsulated as far as I can tell (can freeze a glass of water on it this time of year)...

Underfloor heating - is it possible with my current boiler

I have a Worcester 12/14 oil fired boiler running 14 radiators throughout the house. Hoping to have a new kitchen fitted this year and to free up some wall space I'm thinking of removing the 2 kitchen radiators and replacing them with piped underfloor heating. The existing concrete floor needs...

    under floor heating

I've got electric underfloor heating in a couple of areas of the house and in both cases it works well. I have slate floors in my entrance hall and downstairs bathroom, the underfloor heating in these areas stays on most of the year as it takes ages to warm through otherwise, it also keeps the...

What is a condensing extractor fan? Engineer recommends use

I presume he means a fan with a humidity stat which basically operates when it detects humidity at a certain level which you can set and adjust yourself. I have one fitted and it seems to work well :)

    Tyrolean - Poor quality job

Is the general concensus that you should use lime in the render, when I mentioned this to the guys who've quoted they said they tend not to use it as it dries out too quickly.

Oil Boiler Service - what should it include?

Update......................boiler now not working :( Thermal cut out switch is tripping and can't see anything obvious, fair play to the heating engineer he's coming back out this afternoon to take a look, hopefully something simple

    Tyrolean - Poor quality job

Thanks for your comments and advice guys. It's a fairly big (wall area) semi albeit on 2 stories high. I'm unsure how sucessful I would be taking any legal action on the guy that did it, just smarts a bit that I trusted him to do a good job and it seems to be anything but. The guys I've had...

Oil Boiler Service - what should it include?

Well everything seems to have gone OK, boiler old but in good condition apparently. The only thing out of the ordinary was that the boiler isn't fitted with a fire cut-out switch/valve so if my house ever goes up in flames the oil will keep on flowing which doesn't sound too good and might...

    Tyrolean - Poor quality job

Had my house re-rendered approx. 2 years ago, this involved completely removing all old render back to brickwork. I used a 'friend of a friend' and the job was completed in about 3-4 weeks and £12,500 later. This cost included me purchasing the raw material and then paying him a mixture of cash...

Oil Boiler Service - what should it include?

wow, what I thought was a fairly simple question has drawn some intersing and heated comments  Thanks to kevplumb for the instructions :D I'm guessing the boiler is around 20 years old and after 3 years since the last service the oil usage seems to be increasingh so getting it...

Oil Boiler Service - what should it include?

Booked my WorcesterDanesmoor 12/14 Oil boiler in for a service on Wednesday as it's not been serviced for 3 years. Last service I had the burner was replaced however my plumber has since retired so I'm using one recommended by my oil supplier as it gives me a free breakdown cover with...

    Shower Positive/Negative head

I had a very similar situation and when I contacted Salamader tech support they said that as the pipes were routed through the loft and in my case travelled a fair distance >20m then I effectively had a negative head situation. I bougth their RCM3 negative head kits and it now works fine :D

should I use F4 Leak sealer?

I've been slowly replacing all the rads in my house, last week I replaced another 3 and took the opportunity whilst drained down to fit a Magnaclean too. I'm running Fernox F3 cleaner through it for a week and will drain down again this weekend to put in Fernox F1 Inhibitor. The highest rad...
