How to fix a cable to a wall

Hi folks, I need to fix a 3mm cable to an external wall. It's to support a climbing plant. I tried google but it always came up with telephone, electrical etc cables. I'm talking about a straight support cable. I suppose a hoop with a thread to screw it into a wall plug. Does it have...

    Tiles have fallen from roof

:D I haven't been up on the roof, but I can see where there the tiles have come from. There is a light grey material under them rather than a gaping hole, that's gotta be good news hasn't it? Probably felt I guess. I can get inside the roof so I could check things there if that's any...

    Tiles have fallen from roof

Great thanks. And patronising tone at no extra cost? A bargain! But honestly thanks, I realise I'm ignorant on the subject, I didn't even know there was a dedicated profession for roofs. I also thought that calling out someone to fix 2 tiles might be overkill. I mean it has to...

    Tiles have fallen from roof

Hi folks, We have lived in our house for 5 years. When we moved in the roof tiles looked in pretty good shape and fairly new, they still do. But today 2 fell from the roof. I've no idea if this is a problem or cause leaks or not. Should I get someone to look at it or replace them or are...

    Jasmine not flowering

Great stuff! Thanks. I had no idea it only flowers on new groth, that would explain it. I have never cut it back at all as I thought I'd leave it to cover the fence, but I guess I should cut back as you mentioned and allow new growth. Thanks

    Jasmine not flowering

Hi folks, We have Jasmine growing in a large pot on the garden fence near the back side of the house. The back of the house faces NE and the jasmine SE so it only gets a touch on sun in the morning (from dawn till about 11am in high summer). The first 2 years it had flowers and kept...

    dishwasher won't heat the water

Also there's a strong chance that whatever blew tripped the house fuse box (is that what it's called?) one night, the breaker for the house sockets had tripped one morning.

    dishwasher won't heat the water

Hi folks, I have a AEG 60860. It's about 5 years old. It has just stopped drying the dishing after the wash. It also seems like it's no longer heating the water as it's stone cold now. Any ideas what it might be? Is it worth paying for someone to fix or could I replace a component myself...

    Need help with my lawn

Thanks guys. I thought it might be compacted. I did put in some stepping stones a few years back, but we don't actually use it that much (mostly just stay on the decking near the house) I will check out that book. Thanks again :)

    Need help with my lawn

Hi folks, We moved to our house 6 years ago. The garden was completely overgrown, I cleared it and put rolls of turf down. It was great for a year, but every year it gets a little worse. I reseed it each year, which helps but it's still not thick. It's a NE facing garden so I guess that...

    Energy saving lightbulb question

Thanks guys. Well, I've just found out my 100W equivelent is actually 72W so not as low as I'd hoped. But I have now found a more expensive 20W (equivelent 100W) so I've bought that. It is supposed to be dimmable. fingers crossed. Thanks anyway :)

    Energy saving lightbulb question

Hi folks, My wife and son just bought a new lamp shade for his room, it has a 60W max. I thought I'd have to buy a new 60W equivelent energy saving dimmable to replace his 100W equivelent energy saving dimmable. But it dawned on me it's a heat thing isn't it? I mean his bulb isn't 100W...

Advice on buying and fitting a new Washing machine

Well, I've the bought Beko. I found it slightly cheaper elsewhere and Comet couldn't deliver till 6th October. We're getting it on Mon morning so we won't even have to go to the laundrette. Which we were told was £11  spent it on a faster deivery instead :) Thanks for all your...

Advice on buying and fitting a new Washing machine

Oh, and thanks tonto once again. I was looking at that machine. It's very cheap and basic, probably noisey too, but the reviews seem good for the price. Cheers

Advice on buying and fitting a new Washing machine

Oh yes, it has to be silver. A white one would look ridiculous next to a silver dishwasher and fridge. I'm afraid aesthetics are important in the kitchen. :)

Advice on buying and fitting a new Washing machine

Hi folks, Since my old washer dryer has broken and seems to be un-repairable I'm looking for some advice on a new one. Due to money I'm going to buy a cheap washer and forget the dryer. It needs to be silver, standard size and as cheap as possible. 1) Does anyone have any...
