Dulux weathershield satin- do I need ali primer on bare wood

Hi I'm painting bare wooden mahogany double doors. Initially I'd bought oil based aluminium primer but now I've found a satin exterior paint (Dulux weathershield) and it's water based and also undercoats. So I presume I do away with the need for using the ali primer and just do 2-3 coats...

Restoring a Victorian timber front door with rot!!

Hi, not uploaded pics b4, has this worked? Self explanatory really, you can see the damage, more needs cutting out. They're 50mm thick doors so was hoping to fix pieces half the thickness of the door. The skirt is no problem, that will just fix to the face of the main door, there's also a...

Restoring a Victorian timber front door with rot!!

I have a double Victorian front door which is need of repair/restoration. The bottom of the door/s will need areas either filled or replaced as I can dig out soaking rotten areas of wood about 5" sq±! What's the best thing to do, replace with new wood or fill? It'll take a lot more than a tub...

    consumer board query

I need to replace my x3 old 'fuse holding style' consumer boards for modern trip style, but noticed a couple of things while researching them: 1. Why do they come pre loaded with various MCB's? Surely it's best to add whatever amperage you require as there will otherwise be some which are not...

Help with identifying type of fuse in a consumer unit

Does anyone know the correct name for the types of fuse used in consumer units? I need to buy a few 5a ones, but they're not the same as those which go into plugs, they're a bit shorter. The length is 22mm, the one I have is made by Lawson, BS 1361. Looked up good ol eBay but most seem to be...

    wallpapering horizontally

Did it guys! And it's perfect... the help of a 2nd pair of hands in the form of my 14 yr old son enabled me to paste it up without concertina - I'm sorry, there's no way concertinering enables it to be a one man job, that's what I did first and the looped folds became hard folds, creased to hell...

    wallpapering horizontally

Heeeeeelp! Just tried applying my first wallpaper ever! I know horizintally is more difficult but a few pointers please: What is the max length recommended ie. before it becomes too hard to hold in concertina? The width I have to do is only 2.9m so is that usually done in one length...

    advice on long LED GU10s

No Chris, asked the supplier, they only take the longer version led or the Megaman bulbs. Units were sealed in boxes, so this is how they are. There isn't a retaining spring/clip - do you mean like the MR16's?

    advice on long LED GU10s

No, tried a normal one - there's a ridge/inner lip which prevents the bulb going in any further so has to be the longer version (think 73-77mm will do, have tried a 77 from a friend and fits). Must be 3000k though, don't want anything remotely cool for a hallway. If gonna cost a fortune I'll...

    advice on long LED GU10s

Hi Need to source 76mm (or close to this) GU10's in 3000k warm white to fit a fire rated down light. Does anyone know if there's a decent LED bulb available that doesn't cost £20+!?? Don't want Megaman low energy cos I have better things to do that wait 1 min 30 secs for the hallway to reach...
