    soldering gone black

More flux! No need for mapp gas, regular propane is fine. Dont have your flame absolutely roaring, keep it at a steady pace, and keep your solder touched on the joint so you don't over heat it.

    Tiling Bathroom floor advice

I would remove the MDF, and screw the floorboards down were it flexes. You then need to screw half inch marine ply to the floor, screw every 6 inches or so to make sure it is properly secure. Use 3/4 inch screws or something so you don't go through the floorboards into any pipes...

    Calling gazza991

Even if it is combined, don't think you will find anything to fit onto your rainwater pipe. You can only install a hopper if it is replacing an existing one too

    Flueless Gas Fires CO PPM

Hey chaps, just an update, passed my ACS today, and done one module which was boilers, it's all my work pays for. (pointless taking any of it anyway because we don't do gas in our place) Regarding the flueless gas fire, I just stated the CO/CO2 ratio was ok, but the burner pressure was only...

Hi Steve, Just wondering where you sent the MIs? Thanks!

    Flueless Gas Fires CO PPM

It doesn't specifically ask for an explanation on the CO PPM, so I may just put, as the CO/CO2 ratio is under 0.001 (I think it came in at something like 0.0009) and flame picture is good, all is ok. It sucks because I done 2 days training last week specifically for the ACS, but there wasn't...

    rising main

Just get a "Stop Tap".. I'm guessing your rising main is in 15mm copper? As long as your pressure isnt p1$$ poor to start with, you won't notice a thing. Just make sure you fit it the corrent way, it should have a direction arrow on. Don't buy a gate valve, they are terrible for seizing up!

How do these new fangled toilets work then?

Probably a blockage as mentioned above, very common. Strip it down and clean it out. Is your float on a threaded bolt? Twist that to move it up and down, moving it up will increase the amount of water in the cistern. Is your float on a threaded bolt but doesn't twist? It should be threaded...

Adding a shower but need waste to run about 5m or so

Your only problem really is self syphonage. You could get around this by fitting a hepVo trap close to the shower trap. As long as if anything else is Tee'd into the shower waste, the shower waste water itself doesn't pull any other traps out, or even better don't havea anything connected to it

heating ok but no hot water

Possibly diverter valve? Check the pushrod is making the switch when hot tap is turned on.

Some Advice For Death Like Lawn!

Moved into a rented house a couple of months ago, the garden was in a bad state when we moved in but I had it in mind to sort it out. My plans are to have a nice even lush green, moss and weed free lawn. The borders were full of overgrown weeds, which I spend a couple of hours digging over...

Struggling with a tap - PICS

I wasn't even going to renew the washer, I was just going to turn it around seems as a new set of taps are on the agenda but wanted to stop the dripping for now! A set of tap revivers are a good idea though! Still be interested to know how to remove the head from the spindle though...

Struggling with a tap - PICS

This is a bit embarrasing being a plumber myself, but this one really has defeated me! Our bath / shower mixer tap has been dripping on the hot side. Managed to remove the inards from the tap body, but can't seem to remove the handle from the valve part inside. I know on usual taps you...

    Suitable Bricks For BBQ?

A brick built BBQ is on the agenda. Do I have to use special heat resistant bricks or will any B&Q Red Brick be ok for this? Thanks.

    Central Heating Temperature Control

Water should be 50 degrees out of your tap, or if you or any other occupants feel this to be too hot, adjust it. Just personal preference really.
