Did I get what I paid for?

I've had a lot of problems with my window installers with bay poles not fitted, scratched windows taking ages to be replaced. Now the weather has got colder I've noticed condensation round the inside edges of the new windows. I don't get this on a couple of A rated windows replaced last year...

    Smart thermostats everywhere!

Easy to do but not without drilling holes in the freshly plastered ceiling and channelling walls etc to hide things.

    Smart thermostats everywhere!

I was totally sucked in by the marketing, never again. The thing thats really annoying is that despite all my bad experiences my sister bought one. Her boiler is in the loft and shes had to go up there a few times to try and get the base to talk to the thermostat.

    UPVC glazing beads

I managed to damage one of these whilst doing some DIY in the back room, where can I buy a replacement (the internet seems to be of little help)? The window profile is Duraflex.

    Smart thermostats everywhere!

I have a nest and its total rubbish. I like being able to control the heating when I am out but the device frequently loses connection to the boiler in the night and you come down to a cold house. Also they like to release updates that don't seem to do anything other than break it, not admit...

    Mismatched wallpaper batches

Sounds like the best plan is to try and swap batches next to the chimney breast, that way it should be less noticeable.

    Mismatched wallpaper batches

I bought wallpaper for my dining room in July and have only now started hanging it. The delay was because we hadn't started stripping when I bought it, I just got it to stop my girlfriend moaning about it. I started hanging it today and found one of the rolls has been misprinted, it's got light...

    Leaky Mira Excel

I have a Mira Excel shower (uses cartridge 903.33) which leaks/passes water every now and then (i.e. spurts from the shower head randomly for half a second or so). This seems to happen most often after the toilet cistern stops filling but there is also evidence of it having happened during the...

    New blown plaster

I have an answer from the plasterer. Because the area was so large and quite deep he dot and dabbed plasterboard into the hole then skimmed it level. That explains why there is no movement in it and it's flat.

    Back box screw threads

I'm decorating my dining room at the moment and needed to remove the light switch. I popped the little plastic covers over the screws and realised the normal slotted machine screws had been replaced with large wood screws. Not sure why because the whole house was rewired 3 years ago and the...

    New blown plaster

I had my dining room replastered on Monday and I had gone round and hacked off all the old blown plaster. There was a large section on the chimney (probably about the same size as a 40" tv if you hung it portrait) that was blown. I hacked it off and it was sitting about 2mm proud of the...

Disabling Texecom Premier Elite for DIY

Needed to shorten the cables as I've rerouted them whilst redecorating the dining room. I just stuck it in engineer mode and did it, didn't set the alarm off and is all working fine.

Disabling Texecom Premier Elite for DIY

    Karndean Palio Clic

I'm going to be laying some Karndean Palio Clic flooring in my dining room in the next few weeks. The existing floor is timber floor boards and I am going to lay some 6mm ply over to flatten it plus a vinyl floor underlay. This should flatten everything nicely and have the benefit of brining the...

    Bay window help

So this should now be fixed. They drilled through the cill (which didn't appear to be reinforced under the post) and ran a steel pole onto the brickwork and then through the post up onto the wooden head.

    Changing eurolock - Avocet ABS

Mila make a handle with a shroud that covers the lock (prosecure). I fitted these to all my external doors and they have space inside to take a longer lock that standard. Might be worth looking in to these if you need to gain a few mm

    Where to find plasterer?

I need a plasterer in south east London and not sure where to start looking. I've tried using family recommendations but either they aren't willing to travel as far over or they just don't ever call back. I did have a plasterer a couple of years back but he has disappeared as far as I can tell...
