Alternatives to these (costly) old-style rads

Thanks for tip; apparently they come from Italy, so not sure how much control I have over that. I can but ask!

Alternatives to these (costly) old-style rads

Thanks for input - have contacted a few more merchants, and they were able to give a discount on list price. Ended up biting the bullet and ordering the Anconas. Ended up being £940 for the big ones, so not astronomically more than the Stelrad classics. I just prefer the 'mottled copper'...

Reducing chimney breast - is it possible?

Just wondering if anyone could take a look at this one. Please? Pretty please? :D :D :D

How do I add a joist?

This is the problem - I can't get it on to the wall plate from below. I've cut it to the right length, but that means the wall plate is in the way, unless I drop it down from above, which I can't, because the tank is already in place.

How to get old galvanized steel tank out of the loft?

Will these do? Seriously, don't think I'd have a need for an angle grinder again

Alternatives to these (costly) old-style rads

Thanks - I realise this, hence I mentioned it :D But in many cases for things like this, there are often cheaper 'copies', or similar items that are much cheaper. I'm going for standard rads for all but three.

Alternatives to these (costly) old-style rads

http://www.theradiatorcompany.co.uk/radiators/steel_multi_column/ancona_with_cast_feet.html Really like these, but just for one rad, 2.15m, 3-column, 600heigh, costs £1200. Wondering if anyone can recommend a similar product that's cheaper, or a merchant that can do a good deal on...

How to get old galvanized steel tank out of the loft?

Thanks :D Nice and simple, just want I like. Assume the first one is an angle-grinder. Never used one, and not likely to need one again. Do you think it would be better to rent a good one, or buy a cheap one?

How do I add a joist?

I don't think so, not if I want them to be level with the rest of the joists. If I did, I'd have to cut into the wall plate, which isn't really an option. Plus I can't come in from above, as the cylinder is already in place.

How do I add a joist?

I'm putting in a megaflo tank, which will be 300kg when full. Structural engineer advised putting in a few extra joists. I cut one to length, and even diagonally between two existing joists it won't go in. The only option I think is to make a single joist out of two shorter joists that...

How to get old galvanized steel tank out of the loft?

It does fit through the loft hatch, but is quite heavy. Not sure how one would cut it into pieces?

New stud wall - with inbuilt fishtank along full length

Thanks - I assume you mean 3"x3" :) Why oak? Is that just the strength for given price/availability? Presumably the upper studs could just as well be regular 2x4? I'll post pictures if I manage to do it, frankly not sure if I've got the skill, but will have a go

    New wooden flooring issues

Ok, that works on both counts then, as the biggest windows, which are south facing, are also facing across the narrower dimension. One other thing - would it be better to completely remove the current floorboards, and nail the plywood directly into that? I'll be taking most of them up...

    New wooden flooring issues

Thanks re 1) Sorry to be dumb, but do you mean parallel or perpendicular to the windows? I assume parallel. In my case there are windows both at the end and side, so if I have all the boards in one direction, one or the other is going to be 'wrong'. What the reasoning behind this anyway...

New stud wall - with inbuilt fishtank along full length

Hi there I'm moving my bathroom wall slightly (it currently juts out unnecessarily into the living room). I'd like to put in a wall to wall wish tank - dimensions would be 30cm high, 15cm deep, and 240cm long. I plan to put one-way mirror on the bathroom side, so you can see the fish from...

    2.7m Glass balustrade quote: £2650+VAT?!

Only £300 of that was fitting, apparently! What method did you use to fit it? I want it to be frameless, and thus supported below floor level.

    2.7m Glass balustrade quote: £2650+VAT?!

Just been quoted £2650+VAT to install a simple rectangular balustrade, one piece of glass. I just can't understand how it could be so expensive? Anyone else had something similar?

    New wooden flooring issues

Hi there I have taken down a couple of partition wall in my flat, and now have an open plan room 4m x 11m. There's an existing softwood floor on joists. Unfortunately the joists change directly halfway; at the front they go side to side (so the boards are lengthways), and the back half...

Can anyone recommend a drill bit for removing mortar?

Sorry, an internal brick wall we've taken the plaster off.
