Stud partition - is it structural?

Couple of photos: 1) Bit blury, but photo looking up at the top of the stud wall: 2) Photo of the chimney and pillar supporting the beam: 3) Photo of the beam where the door frame was taken out: As you can see in that one, the beam that the joists rest on is quite narrow...

Method of supporting a Chimney Breast

Is there any particular reason you don't want to remove the stack? IMO this is by far the easiest and safest method - nothing to support that way. It does of course depends on the aesthetic value of the chimney stack. EDIT - Ignore me, I just re-read, and you like the chimney stack...

Stud partition - is it structural?

Even though, as I say, the joists don't insert into, or rest on, the party wall? That means a span of at least 4 metres of a beam that's only 5cm wide supporting a dozen joists...

Stud partition - is it structural?

Just got home, and on close inspection, I can confirm that the joists on the party wall rest on a beam that is NOT attached to the party wall. That (fairly narrow) beam appears to rest on the chimney, then a sort of half-brick deep pillar poking out of the party wall, and then finally the...

Stud partition - is it structural?

Thanks - part of my concern is that it might also be helping with the rigidity of the building, not just load bearing. Also, while the joists rest on the outside wall, that only rest on a single long beam that is somehow attached to the party wall.

Building Regs - min distance between gas/elec/water

Hi there I am having a new gas and water main come into the property, as well as extending the tails from the meter, with SWA, all along the same route. What is the minimum safe distance between them, horizontally, and vertically?

Stud partition - is it structural?

Some facts: 1) It's upper floor, so if it is supporting, it will be supporting just the roof, not another floor. 2) The neighbouring room is 8 metres long, and 4 metres wide (outside brick wall on one side, party brick wall on other) 3) The roof joists run between the two brick walls...

Support in loft for 250 litre Megaflo

lol - well feel free to chip in. I just intially put it in here, but really it's a question about roof structure/support. Could be any weight, not just a tank :)

Support in loft for 250 litre Megaflo tank

Just wanted to check whether standard 2" x 4" joists were sufficient to support a 250litre tank. Just the water is (obiviously) going to weigh 250kg, tank I'd guess maybe 50kg. That's over the weight of three people. I'll have boarding, and put it nearer to the wall, but not sure how I can...

    Soudns proofing under/side stairs

I live in an upper floor mainsonette, and the back bedroom has stairs down to our back garden. I am going to install soundproofing under the floor boards, but unsure what to do with the wall between the stairs and the downstairs room, and also under the stairs. The wall in my half is...
