Balcony/Flat Room Replacement & Tiling How to?

Hi All, I have a balcony that is also a flat roof over my lower floor. It is currently waterproof, but I want to replace it for aesthetic and longevity reasons. I am going to get a roofer to replace the waterproof membrane and a tiler in, but I want to understand the mechanics and best ways of...

Remove stuck/ corroded Shower Valve Handle

Hi all, I want to adjust the temperature on the thermostatic valve, however having removed the locking screw with an allen key, the handle will not come off. I had a similar issue with the valve downstairs, but some WD40 wiggling and using a bit of fabric to get some leverage managed to get it...

Skill transfer between rendering and plastering?

Thanks for that. I have not even thought about mixing and have not yet researched it. I am guessing therefore that mixing up using an electric paddle is less desirable?

Outdoor railing - referb and paint

Hi all, I have an outside 1st floor balcony railing (5m long) that is about 60 years old. It is in need of tlc and I am planning on refurbishing it. I am going to live here a long time, so would rather do a really thorough job the first time, to get a high quality finish that is easier to...

Skill transfer between rendering and plastering?

Hi all, Been searching and reading many articles on rendering but I cant find the specific answers to my questions - and I am wondering if you can help. Question: How different are the skills required to render a wall vs that of plastering a wall? I have a very small garden wall that I want...

Combi Boiler - hot water when tap half on?

I had heard of this in some of the latest Worcester Bosch boilers. I also dont understand the whole eco mode thing on the Worcester Bosch boilers. As I understand it, the function should keep some water warm ready for the demand from a tap. Intuitively I cant understand why the boiler does not...

Combi Boiler - hot water when tap half on?

That was my ideal solution, but the limitation of the house means that there is no location to put the cylinder. The attic is a no go owing to height, none of the cupboards are large enough, and we do not want to lose space in a room to allow for it. I did put one in a garage in a previous...

Combi Boiler - hot water when tap half on?

Hi All, I have a WB Greenstar 25si which is really undersized for my property (came with the house, 5 bed, 2 bathroom). I have been considering for a while upgrading it to something more meaty to increase the hot water flow (as I was renovating my house I paid to upgrade the mains to 32mm, cold...

Repairing wood floor - removing glue, sand or scrape

So I have been playing and have found what I think is the best (non-chemical) approach. That is using my oscillating multi-tool with a rigid blade seems to cut through the stuff really quickly. It is still going to be a chore, but it seems to be an optimal solution.

Repairing wood floor - removing glue, sand or scrape

Thanks for the suggestion, I have not tried lots of chemicals. One slight issue is that my wife may be pregnant, I am not keen on filling the place with chemicals in the early stages of pregnancy, not the late ones either. I had a bit more luck scraping using my Fein multi tool. Its still going...

Repairing wood floor - removing glue, sand or scrape

No idea, I tried white spirit and it seemed to slightly reduce the tackiness, but not much else.

Repairing wood floor - removing glue, sand or scrape

So some previous owner of my house decided to put a cheap pine floor over a perfectly nice real Marbau 5 finger parquet. Instead of floating it, they glued it. I now want to restore the original floor. Having pulled the old floor and salvaged some spare fingers from under the stairs I am...

    Diversity Calculation - oven/hob - help appreciated

I am in the process of buying a new Induction Hob for my kitchen (replacing an electric ceramic hob) but before I finalise my decision on which hob to buy, I want to fully understand the type of change that will be required to the wiring of my house and therefore the likely cost from my...

Preparing new plaster for wallpaper - ensuring it comes off easily later

Hi, I have a newly plastered room - been left to dry for 2 months. I have sealed the plaster with 2x mist coats of paint. Most of the room will be painted, but the Mrs wants a feature wall of wallpaper. The question is two fold: 1. What else should I do to appropriately seal the plaster - I...

Balancing a Bathroom Towel Radiator - but the valves are either on or off?

I am not having an issue yet, but then I only installed them and commissioned them yesterday so I have not had a chance to check. There doesn't appear to be any method of taking the front of to adjust them, either on or off. Hopefully they have reduced the flow in the valve so that when it is on...

Balancing a Bathroom Towel Radiator - but the valves are either on or off?

Hi, I have two of these Towel Radiator valves (different bathrooms) and I cannot figure out how to balance them. They seem to be either on or off, I guess I could leave them diagonally turned on, but that somewhat ruins the square effect and they are also very light and easy to turn so I know...
