When it trips the MCB does it do it on start-up or is it after its been on for a long time?

    knock off nigel

We're living in a money grabbing world where everyone is out to get you - including the government. Nobody seems to have any moral fibre any more. Where's the justice? It's gone. So it's no wonder then that people take the advert lightly. There are very few people these days who are willing to...

    % calculation

Ok then breezer, seeing as you're on a roll. If you wanted to sell gizmos at £372 but wanted to offer 17½% discount off the asking price, what would you have to sell them for?

    % calculation

Breezer, are you saying you know how much an item costs and how much it costs when tax is added; but you don't know how to work out the tax rate applied? Lets say an item cost £372 and when tax was added it amounted to £455.70 What is the rate of tax? To work it out: £455 - £372 = £83.70...

    Virgin TV

I'm not an expert but I think you should run from the splitter to each outlet. No doubt you'll also be installing an amplifier to strengthen the signal. I'm sure others on here will be able to give you more definitive advice.

how long have 17th Ed certs been available for?

Basically if you were designing an installation to the 17th edition you could issue a 17th ed EIC before 1st July. Or, still use 16th ed as necessary. After 1st July you can only issue 17th ed EIC for the work done on a 16th/17th ed compliant installation.

    17th Confusion

If you are asked to extend a ring main simply do the work and make sure it is RCD protected. Most are. Complete an EIC (or even a MWC) for the ring main and make sure main bonding is in place. You do not have to touch the rest of the circuits or change the CU.

    Electrical Certification

Whilst you've got the opportunity tomorrow I would find out from your local council your nearest Trading Standards office and find out exactly where you stand legally. That's what the're there for. Alternatively; you could give Consumer Direct a ring and get advice from them. Their tel no...

    RCD bathroom

If you put a Hager 6A RCBO into your CU you will of course be replacing your existing MCB for your upstairs lighting circuit which will include the bathroom light. (Assuming of course that your bathroom is upstairs). As the fan and shaver is normally taken off the lighting circuit, these then...

Two cables to TV's from roof aerial

I'm no expert but I would have thought 1 cable to a 2 port amp and then feeding each TV from the amp.

    Electrical Certification

Spark 123 is absolutely right. So first of all find out if he is going to give a certificate for the work. If so find out which organisation he is with. He should tell you straight out. Otherwise inform the LABC of what's going on, they should advise you further what you should do.

Strange problem with 2 way light circuit

It should look something like this:- At the switch with the 3-core: yellow on C (or could be red) Red on L1 (unless red on C), blue on L2. At the other switch: The T&E should be on L1 & L2 (assuming you do have a 2-way switch) The 3-core should be something like - R to L1 (together...

    Do Halogen Spotlights NEED Transformers?

You are quite right, some are mains powered and some are 12v therefore need a transformer. They are not interchangeable.

    Shower keeps tripping fuse.

When you say fuse I presume you mean MCB (miniature circuit breaker). Would it be possible to send pic of your Consumer Unit so we can see? Is it RCD protected for instance? In any event you will need 45A MCB. It would be better to let a local electrician have a look at it in case your cable...

    RCD Circuit Breaker

Any circuit they alter/add-to will have to be RCD protected. They could add another CU and add any extra to that which would be RCD protected, thus leaving existing circuits alone. However, your existing CU with wired-in fuses is probably in need of replacement anyway and now would be a good...
