im looking to put a 40a cu in my garage an feed it from my house, iv jus recently had a new cu fitted but there is no spare places available is there anyway around this

Whoever fitted your new CU should have allowed for future use.
Why do you need 40A Cu in your garage?

i used 40a as an example because there the garage cu i have seen on the bnq website, un fortunatley there are no spaces available, as this cu was fitted wen i had an extension built an they were all used up

Post a picture of your CU with the lid removed (Turn off first!!)

Yup - take the tails from the meter to a Henley block, then from there to the CU, and to a switchfuse to supply the armoured cable running to the garage CU.

You'd need to get a 2nd set of cables the same size as the meter tails (probably 25mm²) in, and you'd still need to go to a switchfuse unless your DNO would allow you to use their fuse to protect it and you wanted to run 25mm² SWA all the way to the garage....
