How do you clean a pond

Well we all should know a syphon wont work on the surface due to sucking in air. The syphon method is commonly used on aquaria often incorporating a gravel cleaner and is a cheap and easy way to remove debris from the bottom of the average garden pond. Unlike many of the cheaper pond vacs it...

How do you clean a pond

Don't quote what I did not say. The OP says the pond water is clear but there is a layer of "dust" this is the usual mulm that builds up in THE BOTTOM of a pond. No one except you has mentioned a scum layer on the surface. J

How do you clean a pond

The UV tube in your filter causes the green algea cells to flocolate(stick together) and they then sink to the bottom of the pond hence your film of dirt. You don't need drains to syphon just a lower point than the pond, sitck one end of a hose into the pond, suck on the other then when the...

How do you clean a pond

If it is just a "dust" of dead algae then just syphon it off with a hosepipe. Do a bit at a time so you are not changing masses of water in one go. If you don't have a water purifier on your top up water then add a conditioner to the new to neutralise the chlorine etc. J

    new pond, help/advice/guidance

Design looks fine to me, always better to have water follow the land, just looks wrong flowing uphill  Judging by the scale of the figure next to the pond you will have a substantial volume of water maybe 3-4000gallons in the top pond which I'm sure you don't want looking pea green so...

    Planer Thicknesser Advice

You will want something with substantial tables, particularly for the planer part, any of the cheapies will just sag if not tip over with the overhang. Thicknessing will not be so critical but a sturdy machine would be best. For sleepers and beams you really want to be looking for some second...

Non-parallel cuts on a table saw

Its likely what you have is a mitre guide, this is for cutting the ends of pieces of wood at an angle for example 45degree cuts to make a picture frame. The last method I suggested of fixing one piece of wood at an angle to another works well, give it a try. J

Non-parallel cuts on a table saw

You can get taper cutters or make your own like Norms but they are really only for short lengths such as tapered tabel legs, not much use for firring which it sounds like you want. http://www.axminster.co.uk/axminster-axminster-taper-cutting-jig-prod20902/ If you have a sliding table on...

Mosaic. How do you do them?

The way I do mosaic borders is to cut some strips of say 6mm MDF or Ply the width of the border and any grout allowance. Tile the wall inserting the strips of MDF in place of the mosaic, make sure you don't stick the MDF to the wall and pull it out once the adhesive has firmed up say after 1hr...

Mosaic. How do you do them?

Use a mosaic trowel then you won't have so mauch adhesive which will reduce slumping Use Mosaic adhesive such as BAL which is a bright white so if you do get a bit come through its not so bad. Set the sheet a bit above (3mm or so) where you need it and ease it down that way its less likely...

Cutting a large hole in a ceramic tile.

84 or 86mm here for not a lot, usually takes 10-14 days http://richontools.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1_6&sort=20a&page=2 I've used them quite a lot, far cheaper than what the coated saws sell for here. Use the saw to cut a hole in a bit of scrap 6mm MDF or Ply, then hold that...

How strong is wood? Need to drive a car over it....

I'd say you want something around 6"x3" laid flat as thats a bit wider than most pits I've seen. Alternative would be to get some frames welded up from 100x50 steel hollow section with chequer plate on the top. J
