    Crimping Twin & Earth

That sounds great to me because the tubing I have that I've used on bikes etc shrinks with the heat of a Hair Dryer but isn't particularly strong. The other tube I wanted to use requires a flame from a gas torch ( only just if you know what I mean ) but I wanted to make sure the T and E cable is...

    Crimping Twin & Earth

Brilliant !! That's even less work for me to do  Actually, I was going to use a low-temp H/S that we use that has a small amount of glue inside that helps to seal and strengthen the joint ( hence the term "Water Block" ). Do you reckon that this would be OK for the regs, or does T and E...

    Water Supply Bonding

Thanks John, that's another little worry off my mind :)

    Water Supply Bonding

As you will be aware from my previous posts, I am checking existing aspects of my Electrical Cabling ready for inspection before fitting a new CU. I can find all the Bonding points to the Water & Gas services entering the building but I wanted to check one thing. The water is bonded just...

    Crimping Twin & Earth

What I would've liked to do is H/S each individual crimped conductor joint in three stepped positions then cover all three joints in one "overall" H/S. This is similar to how we use the Water Block H/S joints in BT cabling as below :- Yes TTC, this site has made me FULLY aware of all the...

    Crimping Twin & Earth

I'm sure I must be reading some of the posts wrong here but is it correct that's it permissible to through-crimp 2.5mm T and E ? I've already got a very good pair of ratchet crimpers bought from Vehicle Wiring Products that will handle up to 4mm cable but I just find it a little hard to swallow...

    consumer unit

At the risk of sounding like a brown-noser  I must say that CU is very neat & tidy RF. I guess that you took the Supply cables straight out of the back of the unit, behind the mounting board ? So that is OK then ? I'm glad about that because it's what I would like to do.

bad connections in phone joint box giving slower adsl speed

The gel filled connectors you refer to are 8A jointing crimps. We are now replacing as a matter of course, any of the older types ( usually coloured ) as we work on the network. ( Due to them failing certain adsl tests ) If you can squeeze the crimps with your finger and make a better...

    Split Load Wiring

Once again guys, thanks for the answers :)

    Split Load Wiring

Thanks John. All the piccies I've seen of Split Load CU's seem to have three lengths of wire, with or without terminals already on them like this :- The way the cable snakes smoothly around the CU, I just presumed they were Multi-Core wires, not Rod.

    Split Load Wiring

I've had a quick look on the forum but can't find any references to it, so I'll ask here. What size are the wires used for the Split Load Wiring within the CU ? I'm guessing 16mm but would just like to know coz I'm a nosy git  Also, are they always pre-terminated with solid...

    DNO Board

Cheers Guys. I was thinking about using laminated chip as a backboard, seeing as I see it used in so many Housing Estates.

    DNO Board

I was looking at the quote I got from my DNO for moving my meter and I noticed that they say the board that all their eqpt is affixed to belongs to them. So if I add an isolator/Earth Block etc, would they be in their rights to demand it is removed ?

    Picture of the week!™

Nice to see that it's not just phone cables that get that sort of quality control !! I've come across quite a few of the underground 50pr and 100pr types where I've cut into a solid cable, only to be confronted by that sort of joint. At least with phone cable you're only looking at a maximum...

    Master Socket question

You would think that wouldn't you plugwash ? But, in practice, if the fault proves to be on the D/W, we have to change it. Also, if a second line is required in a different location at the house, another D/W is supposed to be erected to supply that. The only time that a fault can be repaired...

Surge protection in the Consumer unit

I'll be damned if I can't find the US advert on Google now  They did look VERY similar to the Hager ones that Crystal Ball posted the link to though. Seems like if you want surge protection in the CU, it's best to have a HUGE unit with plenty of space. They seem to take up four bays ?
