    Tile Saw

Yes. My tile saw is from Wickes, no problems cutting ceramic tiles to whatever shape that consists of straight lines. Porcelan tiles are much harder and would require a better saw, although I did 2 cuts in a big porcelan tile with mine.

Party Wall Act - help required please.

It is up to your parents of course but I found out from experience that a good relationship with neighbours could be invaluable. My partner's late mother suffered from Alzheimer during the last years of her life. We lived at about 30 minutes drive away. Several times we had phone calls from some...

Party Wall Act - help required please.

How old are your parents? Do you really do them a favour straining the relationship with their neigbours?

Party Wall Act - help required please.

I still can't understand the reason for all this flapping about. What damage would they do to your parents' property?

what are my rights after being a victim of Dot & Dab til

I looked at the pictures again (got a notification when you posted your comment), and can confirm that as a DIY-er I did much better job, nowhere near what you can see in this topic, and yes, it was my very first experience with tiling. If the only thing I could achieve looked as on the...

    Aldi Mixer Taps

If you mean the kitchen taps that they sell at the moment, we fitted exactly the same (the curved model) about five years ago. No problems at all with the installation or using it later on. Had to move house last year, going to buy another mixer tap from Aldi tomorrow as I've had enough of the...

    Bathroom design

Do you mean the vertical soil pipe is in the corner between the bath and the wall, and a horizontal soil pipe from the toilet goes to the vertical pipe? If so, I would be very tempted to change the overall design, depending on the other dimensions. Don't think it is possible to install a screen...

    Citizenship tests

I bet most of the native British would not pass the life in the UK test. The test is ridiculous.

Sand faced tiles. Removing the grout

Nice to see you, gcol :) You are one of the first people to give me advice on this forum. Leecampbell, have you tried this http://www.screwfix.com/p/vitrex-grout-clean-up-polishing-kit/69180#

    How many women tackle DIY?

I strongly disagree :) I personally like doing it, except plastering, which is boring imho. Oh, and have never done any gas installation because of the regulations. As for physical strength and lifting heavy things - there is always a way. We hired a roadbreaker to dig a concrete patio and...

Respirators to cut out fumes ?

I used this http://www.screwfix.com/p/dr-ger-p3-chemical-half-mask-set/39216 for working with 98% acetic acid. It steams a lot when the container is opened and it is not possible to work without protection. I tried another mask before this and fortunately managed to quickly run away to...

    Bathroom Refurbishment Order of Completion

How are you going to have the floor tiled with the bath, sink, and toilet there. You have to remove them temporarily, replace or overboard the floorboards with WBP ply and then can put them back. I can tell you in what order I refurbished my bathroom, hope it would help 1) Removed...

    Party wall thickness

Judging by the 2 similar houses I lived in, it is likely to be double brick. I am not a builder though.

Giving advice to builders and developers

Yes, indus, I agree. The property investors who pay builders to do the job probably don't ask many questions here. The ones who do the work themselves are actually DIY-ers. And yes, I find it annoying when somebody doesn't bother to search and posts something like "I am going to tile my...

    put lights onto tiles

Bathrooms are notifiable locations and the only thing related to electrics you can do without breaking the regulations, is to change like for like. If the lights were already there and you just want to replace them, there would be plugs in the tiles, I imagine. So 1) it is likely you are doing...

How can you draw the line in practical terms? I found the answer for most of the questions I had without asking. The topics were already here.

    1 door 2 doorframes??

Why do you want to do this? Imagine you are having it in a WC-utility position, someone is in the loo, and someone else enters the utility from either the kitchen or the garden. I would put 2 doors.
