    Powerstream mixer shower connection

I could do either, though obviously it would look better to change the pipes within the stud wall

    Powerstream mixer shower connection

The shower was already there when we moved in and teh pipework is through a stud wall then elbowed down to the back-plate elbows and shower mixer. Yes I know thats crap, but when I replaced it 10 years ago it really was a like for like replacement and there were other things needing doing more...

    Powerstream mixer shower connection

I'm having a senior moment and a bit hacked off that the item I ordered is not what arrived, so looking for some help. About 10 years ago we fitted a Redring powerstream shower like this and over the years it has failed - kids wear and tear etc. So intending to make it simple I...

    Central heating pump not working

Feeling the pump it isn't running and changing the speed makes no difference so I'm fairly sure the pump isn't working

    Replacement Radiator physical size differences

compheat, thanks for the link. I'd rather not have round top but it is the spare room so they are a possibility. I had a quick google before tea (oooer missus) and found radiator extenders http://www.bes.co.uk/products/114.asp#10216 which might also be an answer

    Replacement Radiator physical size differences

A long long saga which has in part been on these forums, but not worth boring anybody with now. The end result is room was replastered and the old knackered radiator removed and dumped. Now trying to replace without pipework changes and can only assume I had an old imperial rad which doesnt...

    Uplighter distance from pitched ceiling

Thanks for the reply. Persuaded her to look at something else which is not as inefficient.

    Uplighter distance from pitched ceiling

As we are decorating, SWMBO wants to replace the wall light with new and has chosen http://www.thelighting-company.co.uk/dar-range-wall-lights-c-1_58_5/dar-via-wall-light-satin-chrome-p-14016. But as it has a stupidly high wattage halogen (and although I would replace with the lowest I can get...

Mortice latch for a thin door

Never really been keen on ball catches especially in doors this size.

Mortice latch for a thin door

Thanks for the ideas. Yes door is into the roof eaves, so plain side of the door can be less attractive. Rim lock is a possibility, but not really keen. I might take Steve's suggestion and increase the stile thickness, though that means the stop is more complex.

Mortice latch for a thin door

Sorry I've obviously not been clear enough. I want to fit a standard tubular latch to the eaves door so I could fit matching door handles on the main room door and this eaves door. The width of the door stile is sufficient to take a 64mm tubular latch, but the door stile thickness is only...

Mortice latch for a thin door

We have a door into the eaves which is only 1400 x 710 x 27 mm but matches the full size door. I'd like to match door furniture and give it a proper latch. But the door width makes fitting a standard mortice latch unlikely. Is a narrow latch made or any suggestions how I can get a latch on...

New skirting and newly plastered wall

I have just had a room plastered and refitting skirting - a mixture of original and new milled to match. I intend to glue using Gripfill - unless anybody says that's a bad idea. But the real question is what gap should I leave between skirting and floorboards to allow access? Room will be...

Temporary/Semi-Permanent removal of Radiator - no drain down

Thanks for the replies. I do have the TRV caps and have used them for decorating in the past. Expertgasman you say dont open the bleed valve, why? I had assumed the easiest way to drain the rad would be to disconnect one end of the rad from the valve and open the bleed valve to allow...

Temporary/Semi-Permanent removal of Radiator - no drain down

Thanks for the reply. Do you mean close lock shield and TRV and then undo connections to the rad itself. Drain just tha rad, remove and leave withthe lockshied and TRV as the closures in the system?

Temporary/Semi-Permanent removal of Radiator - no drain down

Long story to do with dry rot, but to be brief, we are having a room replastered and need to remove the radiator (probably to be replaced by a new one). As the plaster still needs to be hacked off the wall behind the rad and Xmas fast approaching, it is possible that the rad will have to be...
