Plasterboard ceiling and joint filling help

A couple of weeks ago you guys were kind enough to give some advice here on a ceiling for a friend of SWMBOs having a hard time with ex-hubby and money. She has bravely taken the next step and is moving in and now wants me to try and fix up the ceiling as best I can. That means I am back for...

    Gas pipe capping off

We are re-decorating the spare room and changing the layout a bit. Got rid of all the unnecessary water pipes under the floorboards and end stopped pipes above floorboards which presumably were for a basin before we got the house. But having decided to move the bed, we now have a gas pipe...

    Improving Loft Insulation

Depends on how much you want to spend, but Kingspan or Celotex rigid phenolic insulation will be approximately half the thickness for the same insulation performance in comparison with wool. It's not cheap, but if you buy in bulk then it might be the answer

Is it possible to edit a post title

Being lousy at typing I have managed to create a number of posts with mis-spelt and garbled titles. Thankfully for the most part the users of the forum get passed that, but i would like to correct them while they are still live and make it easier for all replying. Is it possible, or do I need...

    Help identifying part

Anybody give me some idea how much the part would be or a link to one? I have tried googling, but can't seem to find anything similar looking. Just trying to get a rough cost of all the work for her. I assume fitting is pretty straightforward soldering (especially if the system is already...

Plaster board over lathe and plaster ceiling

House is a simple semi-detached, in a normal street of mixed heritage so nothing to list and certainly not a conservation area lol. Money is desperate for her which is why I am trying to do as much as I can to make it habitable for her and her kids. A bit of patch plastering I can manage, but...

Plaster board over lathe and plaster ceiling

A friend of SWMBO is having to move back into the ex matimonial home after a year of it remaining empty. Long story and as I am led to believe an acrimonious divorce and attempted sale of house, so house left empty for a year and to make matters worse a burst pipe caused more damage. As she...

    Help identifying part

Thanks for the replies Central heating works, they run it for a couple of hours a day after the pipe burst to help dry the place out. It's certainly seen better days, but just prior to the divorce they had started some updates to the house and so some of the system has been updated. Pump works...

    Water hammer - not TRV

I'll have a look tonight when I get home, but as it has worked perfectly for the past 5 or more years since it was put in, I suspect it is the right way round.
