    Shed floor - rockwool

Re-reading my own post, I guess what I'm getting at it this - the rockwool needs to stay dry and need to protect from nesting animals :)

    Shed floor - rockwool

Currently building a shed/cabin, won't be insulating the walls for a while, but now is the time to sort the floor out. I have several rolls of 200mm rockwool lying around - I know it isn't as good as polystyrene or celotex/kingspan, but can I put this to use? The floor joists are 6x2, so a...

    Shed/cabin base

Cheers, should i be looking at a minimum concrete depth, say an inch or maybe more?

    Shed/cabin base

Will be building up the frame this weekend. Thinking ahead to getting the blocks down, what's the best bet? Dig off the topsoil, put a bit of old brick rubble/hardcore down, mix up concrete and drop the block on and level up while it's all still wet?

    Concrete Shed Base

I planned on the same thing, with my 12x10 'cabin' but in the end I've used some tanalised 6x2 to build a raised base on concrete blocks. It's very sturdy! There is a post on here where someone did the same - but concreted posts in instead, looked good

    Driveway gates

This is probably a non starter, but me and the neighbour are looking at replacing the aging metal gates that span our shared driveway with something a bit more secure. The gap is approx 16ft wide and so we're looking at a pair of gates around 8ft wide 6ft tall. Pre-made timber gates are a...

    Shed/cabin base

Certainly looks like the way to go then. I'll whack the ground down a bit first with a club hammer to make it nice and firm. Breeze blocks or 7N conc blocks? What sorta mix for sand/cement, i assume mix it dry out the bag? Excuse my lack of knowledge here! Cheers

    Shed/cabin base

That's an interesting option. Breeze blocks or foundation blocks? Would they need bedding down on anything (cement/sand/type 1/other) ? The supplied 'base' with the shed is tanalised - they've told me its 68mm x 28mm - seems a bit flimsy to me.

    Decking posts

Yup, that's what I and family members have used. Obviously if your decking is metres up in the air then you'll need to use something different ;)

    Shed/cabin base

Looking at getting one of these glorified sheds (marketed as 'log cabins') to use as a room to get away from things - and somewhere to keep the treadmill. I'm looking at a 3.5m x 3m wide one. The current area I have in mind for it isn't ideal - has two old concrete paths running through it...

    A few quick decking questions

Oh yeah, thinking about it - pergola posts and newels - will the same screws suffice, or should I be using a different method? Thanks again

    A few quick decking questions

100mm for the joist -> post fixing, ie 50mm in each ? Would the Spax option from the local fencing place be a better choice that the Toolstation specials then ? :) At what sort of raised height would the bolts become the safer choice (I'm all for overbuilding things) Cheers!

    A few quick decking questions

Just starting out on my deck build. The deck is being built on a slope, so one end will be higher off the ground. I'm using 100x100mm posts and 6x2 joists. 1) What fixings should I be using for the posts to joist? I've read somewhere M12 rust proof bolts. Would M10 do the trick or...

    Chimney breast - windening opening

No problem removing some plaster, but I suspect that there's no lintel - as the pics don't show any (on the inner anyway!)

    Chimney breast - windening opening

Thanks for the response. My worry is that the left and right hand brickwork are acting as supporting columns and that removal of these and moving them out a half brick either way might be a problem.

    Chimney breast - windening opening

Hi, We are currently decorating our front room. The chimney breast was blocked up years ago with fireplace fitted in front. I'd like to box the old hole in and fit some shelves etc... for AV kit. However, the hole is 400mm wide and I need about 500mm for stuff to fit! To widen I'd...
