Floor and wall not lining up..advice needed

I'm not a tiler, but do refurbs. I'd match. It's not too much extra work and it's the right thing to do, if the tile sizes allow.

Ceramic Tiles and "Bonding" or "Hardwall&quot

Hi, I'm tiling a wall in a Bathroom. Unfortunately, it bows in. It's only a small width I am tiling, perhaps 900mm wide, all the way up the wall. Think of a 'half-moon'. Now, I need to essentially 'pack-out' the wall a bit by, at it's worst point 30mm... I don't want to use my expensive...

Party Wall Act - what benefits after work done?

I recently removed a chimney breast under PD. The BCO asked that I render up the slight indent for sound proofing. Render was a nightmare, so I used hardwall. He was happy.

Rainwater Drain - Is A Trap Required (or Advised)?

I would always put a trap of some form in. Why risk blocking some pipe work you can't get to, without ripping up whatever you have just laid.

    DIY DPC

In a lot of cases the cause is nothing to do with the DPC but is actually blocked cavities. I've just started refurbing a house. It's been tanked and a new DPC injected. Neither of which actually did any good as the problem was actually that the cavity was full of soil/rubble. This occurred I...

    'Usual' size for MDPE feed

It was a 20mm tail sticking out. And the inspector didn't comment (according to my guy on site). But the magical people at the end of the phone said 25mm. I'm happy going 25mm. All the better for running the bath quicker ! Ok, ok, a pressurised system as opposed to the combi I'm going to install...

    'Usual' size for MDPE feed

Thank you for that. Right.. Toolstation for some 25mm and a 25mm to 22mm copper connector, stop cock/valve (what ever PC people say) and a non-return valve.

    'Usual' size for MDPE feed

I'm refurbishing a property in Eastleigh, Hampshire. It's got a lead supply pipe. We've dug a 2'6" trench for a new supply, alas I was not present when the inspector called. I was 1" out, so I've got to dig a little more - no problem. However, the inspector called when one of my "lads" was...

minimum roof pitch under permitted development

freddy, I had to read that post and think about it... Right, i see what your getting at. I think he's going to be safer with a pitched roof with, err, traditional materials. God, if I tried that on in Winchester my local BCO would just raise his eyebrow and walk away... :-) Well, after...

    My alarmist estate-agent

this is why I don't use agents. They don't care who goes in or if a problem occurs who fixes it or how much it costs! I'm currently looking at HMO at the moment on a refurb I am doing... Oh joy !

minimum roof pitch under permitted development

jeds is correct. You have to use the same materials as in the rest of the property. Your going to be pushing it to get less than 18 degs. Also depends upon where you live as to what laps you need to have on your tiles - due to prevailing weather conditions. Always start at the max point allowed...

Builders have gone over the PD plan!

I built something that was 100mm over PD. It was a mistake I had made (oops). A neighbour contacted the enforcement officer. They came round, measured and I was out by 100mm. We discussed the issue and then I figured out where I had gone wrong. I said, if needed I would resolve the problem...

    Scrap metal

The lad who works for me told me yesterday he got £530 for last years scrap he had collected off a few jobs we had done... He did buy me a beer - so, I'm happy. Hey, he spent the time cleaning it all up and storing and then shifting it... So, he's welcome to it...
