Bathroom extractor venting into roof space

Thanks Simon35. I agree, it is a bit worrying. They have been around for a very long time though, and this is the only issue so far. Can anyone tell me if there are implications for us having a fan that was installed in a way that does not meet regs? Would it invalidate insurance for example...

Bathroom extractor venting into roof space

I plan to, but can you tell me what is necessary? Does the law require ducting? A condensation trap? Thanks!

Bathroom extractor venting into roof space

Recently we had a loft extension, including a bathroom. Now winter is here we've noticed the ceiling extractor blows a cold gale in when the wind comes from the West, so I decided to find the vent outlet. Took the fan off and lo and behold - no ducting. They have left it venting into the roof...

Max current on a two plug socket - appliances

Do I need an electrician to do it, or am I allowed to?

Max current on a two plug socket - appliances

OK, so I need to get a second spur put in, otherwise I would have the tumbler and the washer drawing >13A on a single spur. Is that right?

Max current on a two plug socket - appliances

In my kitchen there is a dedicated ring circuit which serves the plugs, into which we have washing machine, dishwasher, tumble dryer, kettle, microwave and toaster. I noticed that the two laundry machines are plugged into a dual socket outlet which has been positioned specifically for this...

    Washing machine in bathroom

Good questions. Distance between the front of the shower and the front of the WM is about 1.5m. I can find no information about the environmental humidity tolerance of the machine. The installation manual does not mention it. I think a cupboard will help keep condensation from forming though.

    Washing machine in bathroom

I'm planning to install a washing machine in my bathroom. I believe it's building regs compliant but I wanted to check. I plan to use the socket outside the room to provide power (see picture). I'm unsure of the following and would really appreciate advice: 1. Do I need to enclose the...

    raising wc by 2cm

Is that better than a short flexi? Neither ideal I guess, your suggestion means double the joints, flexi looks like it would collect gunk

    raising wc by 2cm

I'm fitting a new floor in the bathroom and need to raise the wc. Currently it has a straight pan connector pushed straight into a soil pipe horizontally aligned. I can see there are suitable offset pan connectors for the new height, but they are all short, and the current one is about 25cm. Are...

washing machine waste into horizontal WC pipe

I'd rather not have to put the waste pipe through the wall, it's second story and I don't like ladders! Is there anything wrong with my plan? Would it pass regs?

Minimum gap between ceiling and shower door

That is my concern, but I was hoping someone might have done it and be able to tell me it's OK!

Minimum gap between ceiling and shower door

Hi, I need to fit a shower enclosure - door + side panel - in the corner of a loft room with a low ceiling. The distance between the tray and the ceiling is 1.96m. Shower enclosure seem to come in 1.85m, 1.9m and 1.95m. The one I like (Twyford T4 or Geo6) is 1.9m. Question is, will it be a...

washing machine waste into horizontal WC pipe

Yes. My understanding is it will act as a vented nonreturn valve in place of a trap so the brown stuff can't come up into the washer waste pipe. But I'm less clear about whether the washing machine waste might back up into the WC.

washing machine waste into horizontal WC pipe

Hi, I'm planning to site a washing machine next to a WC. The large soil pipe from the WC passes directly behind the washing machine. From reading around it sounds like I could put a boss onto the top of the soil pipe, fit a vertical hepvo trap and a length of 40mm pipe, and dangle the washing...

    Shower scalding

:-) I did strip it down a bit and soak it in diluted spirit of salts. No dice. What I really wanted to find out is whether other problems in the system might be the cause, for example I've seen posts about missing non-return valves and boilers cycling. That said, the temp control is...

    Shower scalding

I'm sure that's good advice, but I was hoping to be able to discuss it a bit with people on here!
