    Dimmer

The Varilight remote control dimmer should be quieter as it doesn't have a coil and would be a straight swop for your current switch.....

fitting a dimmer with halogen spot lights

Hi.........if your lamps are cheap imports rather than one of the main 'branded' lamps with a fused link...it doesn't matter what your dimmer is rated at...when a lamp blows there is a very good chance you will fry the dimmer. Look at your lamps as well as your choice of dimmer. cheers

    "Calibrate" dimmer switch

I know nothing at all about 'calibrating' dimmer switches........however, Varilight make very robust dimmers that can even dim Megaman lamps......

    "Calibrate" dimmer switch

Incidentally, of all the CFL's I use, I find the Megaman ones are amongst the slowest to start and warm up. I chose these, because I wanted the ability to run them on dimmers, and they DO work. Varilight do a fully dimmable CFL that warms up very quickly.......try internetswitchstore.com

    Dimmable low-energy GU10s

They 'dim' after a fashion but if you're expecting the same kind of light and performance as an incandescent lamp you will be disappointed........you will also receive some interesting advice from megaman about the size of dimmer required to control these 'low' energy lamps.....

    4 Blown Dimmers ?!?!?

The problem is unlikely to relate to the dimmers....sparkybird had it right with the branded lamp suggestion... by the way, cheap imported GU10s (non fused) can easily fry a dimmer regardless of de-rating.

Hi all.....RF Lighting, i was talking about a Varilight dimmer when i mentioned that there was no need to de-rate for GU10 lamps. . I refer you to the Varilight website (dimmer selection guide)............ ...

Varilight IR Dimmer and Normal Switch

Varilight IR/touch dimmers are a very cost effective way of having remote control lighting in your home....if one of these master dimmers is to be put on a 2 way or intermediate (multi way) circuit they MUST be used in conjunction with a slave unit /units ......slave units will do nothing at all...

    Halogen GU10s with Dimmer switch

Hi.... Varilight do a 2 x 400w dimmer which will be fine for this job....you don't have to de-rate for GU10 lamps you just have to make sure that you use quality lamps from one of the big lamp producers that have a fuseable link to protect the circuit WHEN the GU10 fails.......if you use an'...

Electricity price - do dimmers save money?

You CAN dim CFL's ..........Varilight have developed a dimmable CFL in either ES or BC and unlike other 'dimmable' CFL offerings it dims like an incandescent lamp i.e. large dimming range and subtle change of colour (temperature)...

    Dimmable GU10 Energy savers?

not with GU10's ......i'm afraid you are stuck with megamans offering which means a restricted dimming range and no change in light 'warmth' as it flickers down...

Dimmer control out through blown bulb?

GU10 lamps are very 'spikey' when they blow.......the major lamp manufacturers have addressed this problem by placing a fuseable link in the GU10 which protects the circuit (dimmer) when a lamp blows....note the use of the word 'when'...

    Kitchen Dimmers

if these are 'inexpensive' transformers , it could well be the transformer load that is on the circuit regardless of lamp wattage.....i.e. 12 x 60w = 720w and 8 x 60w = 480w.......therefore the original dimmer was simply overloaded .

Can dimmers be used as 2 way?

all pot dimmers i.e dimmers with knobs, that are sold as 2 way require you to have the dimmer at one end and a rocker switch at the other and therefore only dimmable from one side of the circuit... if you want to dim both ends of the circuit you should look at the varilight ir/touch...

    dimmer switches

cheap GU10 lamps do not have fuseable links so when they 'blow' the spike can well damage a dimmer switch. (regardless of whether its a cheap or expensive dimmer) the answer is to only use proper branded GU10s (philips, GE,osram or sylvania) NEVER one of the millions of cheap lamps that...
