cutting out plaster board for plasma

I'd just use fibreglass joint tape and fill over.

Easter tiling woes - Tiling to a shower tray

Silicone beading alone should be fine, you will afterall have a double barrier from the two lots of silicone. Do you mean the edging strips which fix under the tiles? They're OK and look really neat but are not absolutely necessary. I guess it depends how good your beading is. If you...

cutting out plaster board for plasma

The stud wall should be fine for mounting the TV provided you screw into the timber with good sized screws! You should cut the plasterboard out as you suggested and fit some additional cross noggins to screw into. Fix the noggins with good screws, rather than just scew nailing, perhaps using a...

Easter tiling woes - Tiling to a shower tray

Yep. Silcone between side of the tray and the wall though I'm not too sure how well silcone sticks to plaster. Might be best to prime the plaster with PVA/water.

Easter tiling woes - Tiling to a shower tray

Popular view is to silicone seal the tray in first (with weight in the tray and allowing 24 hours to cure!), then tile to the tray. Finally apply a second silicone seal between the tiles and the tray.

Tiling Layout - Advice and Opinions

Thanks gcol. I was hoping nobody would suggest the levelling of the bath as I'm far too well in to the job now to change it (frame built and bath siliconed to the wall). The problem is with the flooring joist being out of line so the overall bathroom floor is out. I wanted the...

Tiling Layout - Advice and Opinions

Is there a 'rule of thumb' for determining the height a tiling border should be in a room? My problem is ... the optimum height from a visual perspective for my 50mm mosaic border is about 1m30 from the floor. Unfortunately this passes straight through the shower control which I'm guessing...

    Isolator Switch

Thanks Adam. The fan is wall mounted directly over the bath along the ceiling line (hence LV). The switch to operate the fan is outside the bathroom on a 3 gang switch with the hall and bathroom lights. The switch wire then heads up the wall and into the attic. The existing live is taken...

    Isolator Switch

I want to install a low voltage ventilation fan in the bathroom. I understand that I need a 3 pole isolator switch. Would it be ok to fit this switch in the loft space or does it need to be readily accessible? Thanks.

    Best place to buy lighting?

Call me naive but I would have thought the lamp itself was the most important bit. The holder is just an electrical contact with some fancy surrounding. Now on the other hand if we're talking transformers, I'd definately agree. So, are tlc-direct ok then? Are there an suppliers you...

    Best place to buy lighting?

I'm looking to buy some downlighters for the bathroom (4x LV 50w 50mm dichroic IP44+ in chrome). Can anyone recommend any decent online retailers. I've found plenty around but they all seems rather pricey to me (about £30 plus bulb plus transformers (EACH)). 'TLC-direct' seem OK?

Cheers. Someone else mentioned Karndean more recently to me. I think I'll check that out.

    Help with lighting

Ok, enlighten me please  What's the correct terminology for the live (ring) of the lighting circuit? I did say I'm no expert.

    Help with lighting

I'm no expert but ... sounds like the lights are connected in series to me and in such a way that they're permanently live. Then, when the switch is flipped, the circuit somehow becomes parallel and hence bright. I can't easily work how this is achieved but if I were you I would disconnect...

Quality response. Cheers! What constitutes 'reasonable'. Sounds like the regs are open to interpretation?

    Amtico

Does anyone know anything about Amtico flooring. Is it any good? Does it cost a packet? Does it have to be professionally fitted? etc. I'm thinking about having it fitted in the bathroom (2mx2m) as an alternative to floor tiling.

    Downlights for a Bathroom

OK, IP44 + Your absolutely right there is no requirement but there's no harm in having splash proof lighting in a bathroom which is only 1.6m x 2.5m. Particularly given that theres a lot of steam and condensation likely to be around. Plus, if you're buying new lights you may as well have...
