    Almost embarrassed to ask but.....

The middle plug just needs a biggish screwdriver to unscrew out. The outer clip is upside down. Turn it 180 and you will then be able to pull the end panel upwards to remove.

    Installing loft insulation before plasterboarding

Hi. Its time to insulate the loft space in my newly built extension. The ceiling joists are 170mm so was planning to use 2 layers of insulation. If I put the plasterboard up first, it would be difficult, but not impossible to install the insulation due to there being not much height up...

Polythene on top of new screed

I have recently put a 60 mm screed down in 2 sections. The first section I left the sheet on for 2 weeks. The 2nd came off after 5 days. Both look exactly the same to me. It will dry more rapidly when the sheet comes off, so I suppose the longer you can keep it on the better. But thats...

    Flueless gasfire?

A flueless fire will reqire a big air vent so in my opinion it defeats the objective. As already said, have a look at a balanced flue appliance. Andy.

    levelling batons for concrete slab

Personally I wouldn't pierce the damp. Worst case scenario is the water table rises and you have leak points. What works for me is a 8x2 tamp with a handle each end. Then tape a level to the top so you can always keep a check on the levels.

    levelling batons for concrete slab

You could place the battons higher than where the damp will be cut off. Then notch the tamp so the bottom of the tamp will be your finish hight.

    Fitting new chimney pot

For a decrotive or ilfe gas fire you will need a full opening. A dfe pot will give you this and also the cowl which you are asking for. A gas installer should be able to advise which pot will be suitable. Andy.

Mortar bed required for wall plate?

Depends on the levels, maybe its a bit high that side so he is trying to be a bit skinny. Some roofers dont like the wall plate sat on a bed anyway. So its not crumbling as they spike the roof timbers on. If the brickwork is level then its fine. What size is the wallplate 3x4 or 2x4 ?

    Fitting new chimney pot

To have a cowl over the pot have a look at a dfe pot. This type of pot has a full opening. Check manufacturers advice for fitting but if it is the same as a Marley dfe pot it gets fitted perpendicular to prevailing winds. Google satalite view is a handy reference to how your house is...
