Id always go with cutting 2 neat holes as you then know the joins will be soldered rather than speedfit, just having the peace of mind knowing you have minimal chance of leaks. Its worth the extra time spent. Id only use speedfit if a last resort and there was access easily, but thats just me.

i understand what u mean with the pipe to the trv. Il try to tap the pin etc again see if i get any luck. If not i know the trv will need changing, so what are the options on replacing the trv ie. drain down system or use pipe freeze spray as it will only take a couple of mins to swap the valve...

the pin is definately stiff, i tried to push it down with no success but dont fancy pulling the pin out just incase. Is it common that the pipe would stay cold also if the pin is stuck? i just assumed the pipe would get hot and then the heat stops at the trv??
