remove circlip then force apart by tapping on the thin shaft whilst holding body when it splits, the inside thin shaft will twist up/down on a female thread.

have you removed the circlip and split inside ?. are they running on the thread ok ? Al

You need a thinner washer, seen this one before. If you loosen the body and turn on water a little you should see it works when loosened. Or file down a bit. good fun on the fingers. Al

Im with JohnD Break off tiles, I get jobs like these on a daily basis. People just assume, your a plumber, so he will fit his arm through a cavity wall, repair the grating/overflow......job done. I say break all tiling, and refit a solid PVC panel when repair is complete and tested...

As long as you can keep the shower waste to 1.5" or bigger then its just a case of cutting pipe above the floor and routing to suit your new appliance. might be an idea to post a pic of your bathroom to help understand your problem. HTH Al

Is your cylinder vented or unvented ?. Al

Ideally you will need access to the shower trap, So I would raise the tray to allow an access panel below the tray. Otherwise you would be looking at cutting a hole in the ceiling below to gain access a few years down the line when your tray starts to drain slowly. Al

Is there a rubber washer in the connection between pipe and your new fluidmaster valve? A new fibre washer sounds like all you need, if its a tiny little leak, then a few wraps of pfte tape on the sealing face should to the trick. if you lift the float cup(vertical rod) on your fluidmaster...

I think your quotes are a little high. without seeing is hard to judge. If it took 8 hours with minimal fittings I would say £400 + vat.

With your combi, I would say 15mm is fine to supply a shower. A thermostatic mixer shower is best suited for combi's Al

Your best bet is to call out an engineer, especially as you have cover in place. Sounds like a very simple fix, topping up your boiler with water is conveniant, but adds only water, which will eventually destroy your system. Al

You could fit a shower with inbuilt pump, like a Mira event. Al

So, if you block the overflow, does the water go over the syphon. Or does it leak thru the notch at the back of the cistern ?. Al

If you measure up from inside base of cistern, maybe you'll get 10". If 10" then you could get a 9" syphon to act as internal over flow. If you push down on the fluidmaster float to make it overflow, look and see if water goes over syphon or down overflow pipe. Does that make any sense...

Andy, I meant a picture showing inside of cistern he he he... Yes, you can replace a traditional country pattern syphon with a push button style if it suits your cistern, checking hole size in cistern, usually 1.5 or 2 inch. Also check the push button will fit thru the cistern hole...

syphons act as overflows, check the spillover level. a lot of the more modern push button syphons have an overflow pipe built in. can you post a pic of your syphon ?.
