    Patio Drainage

The way I see it is I’ve got 3 options. 1. Do as I originally planned - remove gulleys/pipes & fit linear drains all the way from the corner down pipe round the back of the garage & house to the path - 4.5m at 1:200 along back of garage - 3m at 1:60 to back of house - 5.5m at 1:200 to path...

    Patio Drainage

Are you saying don’t use hardcore? Or am I getting confused what hardcore actually is (hmmm)! If I drain the patio the other way into a French drain along the grass border, it won’t actually be draining into anything other than nextdoors’ garden! And that still doesn’t help with the gulleys at...

    Patio Drainage

cdbe - Ah right. That makes sense (the fall) You mean have the patio level with the internal floor (above DPC)? If I kept the existing pipes n built the patio over I would have to ram hardcore on top of it though. Wouldn’t that be risky? Thanks

    Patio Drainage

Woody - Do you just not like the look of the linear drains? Or do you not think they work very well? Do you think a sloped channel covered in gravel would be better? Or a French drain type thing? Cheers

    Patio Drainage

I can’t lower the gulleys or the existing pipe coz it will be impossible to create a fall towards the surface water drain under the path. There is hardly a fall on it as it stands - and it runs under proposed patio areas (which need digging out)

    Patio Drainage

Hi, guys. Thanks for the quick responses. I’m slightly confused about the correct fall - coz everything I’ve read so far says that a patio should have a 1:60 fall. Is this only the case if it’s sloping away from the house? If I can get away with 1:200 then I’d be happy with that. But would...

    Patio Drainage

Hi I’m starting my patio project at the moment, and I’ve come to a bit of a dilemma regarding drainage. There is currently no paved area in the back garden - just grass/soil/mess, which all slopes down toward the house. The land is currently roughly level with the DPC with a bit of a trench...

    4 cables in double socket

Thanks. That is what I thought, just didn’t know if there was something I was missing.

    4 cables in double socket

Thanks for the replies, guys. Really appreciate it. Can I just ask is there a reason he would’ve chosen to do it this way? Would it have just been so that the original sockets could still have power while he was putting the cabling in for the extension? And then a quick connection later? I’m...

    4 cables in double socket

Either you’re super impressed with my diagram, or you were expecting something completely different! Here’s a photo of the socket when all the original sockets were working and the new ones were all connected up together but not actually connected up to the mains.

    4 cables in double socket

Excuse the crude diagram! Hope this explains what I mean! Obviously the number of sockets isn’t accurate! Thanks

    4 cables in double socket

Yes, but they will all still be connected in a ring because all the new sockets will still all be connected in turn back to the old socket which I’m talking about.

    4 cables in double socket

Sorry, the ring circuit is on a 32a mcb

    4 cables in double socket

Yes, I know which are the 2 original cables (primary ring) All are 2.5mm All other sockets have 2 cables. Ring circuit is RCD protected as are all other circuits. Is it worth altering? I can fairly easily remove one of the original cables and take it straight to the 1st new socket and...

    4 cables in double socket

Hi guys I’m after a bit of advice, please. I’m building a walk-in-wardrobe in my daughter’s bedroom and at the moment there is a double socket where the wardrobe will go, and will probably become pointless. I was thinking of moving the socket so it could still be used or even just removing...

    Skimming over sand & cement

I mixed up some PVA 1:5 n painted all over the render n about 6-8” overlapping original painted wall. Left to dry overnight n gave it another coat of thicker PVA (2:1). I left it to go off, till it was still a little tacky not completely dry. I then mixed up some multifinish which I had left...

    Skimming over sand & cement

Hi guys, I’m after bit of advice, please. I blocked up the opening between our living room and dining room with aerated blocks and then rendered with 4-1-1 mix to bring level with the existing wall. I scratched the render to leave a key for plastering. I was going to use thistle multifinish...

Self levelling compound over heating mats

Cheers guys. Hopefully get cracking with tiling today. Just checking - So spread adhesive with 10mm rounded trowel onto the floor then spread a thin layer all over the back of the tiles with a straight edge trowel rather than combing it with notched trowel? Cheers

Self levelling compound over heating mats

Finally got round to doing the SLC this morning. 20 bags of Level it 2 mixed n laid covering 36m2. Definitely 4 person job! 2 mixing, 1 pouring n levelling, 1 cleaning buckets. Worked a treat though. A few areas where the matting is showing through but that will be fine for tiling...
