How to Seal Chrome Waste into Belfast Sink?

Yes, thats what I mean. The sink & waste are both new and having test-assembled them together I can see that water is just going to drain under the waste flange and out the sink hole onto the floor!! I assumed it would be some variety of silicon product but was unsure.

    Replacing a radiator

There are some helpful tips and links here: http://www.diynot.com/pages/pl/pl032.php It's fairly straightforward (and I'm just and amatuer DIY'er). Are you fitting a new rad that will be the same size as the old? I.e. will the fittings line up at the same point as your pipework?

How to Seal Chrome Waste into Belfast Sink?

The subject says it all really... I couldn't find anything similar in the Seach. How should I - and what should I use - to seal a chrome waste into a belfast sink? Thanks Simon

    FENSA cert for replacement window?

Hi all I've recently had an old crickle (sp) window replaced with a nice hardwood one from my local joiners (Essex Woodworks out of Southend). I'm very happy with it... but I didn't receive any certification with it. I have got a contract/invoice/guarantee. Chatting with a friend...

    Plastering Tips?

I've done what I consider a fair bit of DIY plastering now - a few sq metres hear, a chimney breast there, around an expanded loft-hatch, etc. The results are certainly acceptable and I think I'm getting a feel for it... I'm getting used to trowling the plaster off the hawk and onto the...

    Plastering Tips?

I am seriously tempted to get someone in. However .... The house needs a fair amount of renovation from it's 70's decor and so I've indentified future plastering I'll have to do and I can't really afford to get someone to do each part.

    Air Bricks

According to a recent BG Homecare inspection I had (it came 'free' with the boiler install) you must have an air-brick - but I'm not sure what level of officaldom that adhears to. We have a 1904 house with a gas fire in the front room - we have lourves, 3mm glass, a chimney that draws really...

    Plastering Tips?

Hi I'm renovating my house a bit at a time and am after some tips on plastering. So far I've plastered over a bricked-up fireplace (left an air-vent), done about the size of an airing cupboard and behind some kitched units. I've been using Blue Hawk undercoat and then a top coat. I've not...

    Makita Mitre Saw?

Thanks Big-All. Am I right in thinking that this wouldn't be able to mitre skirting above about 3.5" in height? but that I can use it to straight-cut anything up to about 3" x 5"? Can anyone suggest an alternative that would allow a 45 deg mitre-cut on skirting up to about 5"? Thanks Simon

How to make kitchen cupboard / cabinet doors?

Hi Can anyone pls suggest some methods to make cupboard doors? I'm planning on using T&G 'slats' for the centre of a door, say 1/2" or 3/8" thick. Then making a mortise and tennon or mitre'd frame from 3/4" planks. What I can't really picture is how to join/attach the inner T&G part to...

    Incorrect statement amnesty

I'm a programmer by trade and a spend a fair amount of my spare time roleplaying - until I read this topic I thought I was a geek and needed to get out more. Having just waded through 16 pages of memory wastage I know that I'm geek... but at least I don't work in the building trade! :D

    Makita Mitre Saw?

I'm looking for a mitre/table saw for plenty of jobs around the house - lots of rennovations including all the skirting and kitchen carcases. I'm pleased with my Makita jigsaw and this looks like a good mid-range mitre-saw - can anyone recommend this? or an alternative...

    Loft Tank

Although not a specific answer to your question it may help.... I had the entire CH system replaced recently and previously had no components in the loft. The hatch was too small for the tanks to go up there and so I increased it in size. It wasn't too hard for an amateur - even with some...

Paint over Sadolin (interior only) on new window?

Hi I'm ordering a new hardwood window for a kitchen from our local joiners. This will be finished with 'black' Sadolin exterior and 'white' on the interior. After the window is installed I'll be re-doing the kitchen and want to paint over the interior with a specific colour. Does this...

    Missing fingers incident.

That wins it for sure!!! I worked at an aircraft-parts manufacturing shop where one lad/junior/apprentice/know-it-all switched off the laser-safety around the drop-presses then had it come down on his shoulder as he lent on it chatting - his dad was the operator and the son got away with only...

Kitchen unit cladding - what materials?

I looking for suggestions as to what material I should use for 'cladding' the sides (and fascias) of kitchen cabinets. I'm using ash for the studs and rails to construct the cabinets/units. The whole thing will be primed and painted. I'm unsure what to use for cladding - is 'A' grade ply...

    Kitchen sink cut-out (another one!)

I saw the previous topic re: sink cut-outs and my question is fairly similar... I'll be buying either a solid beech or 'butchers-block' worktop for our kitchen and this will require a sink cut-out for a belfast sink and draining grooves. I've currently got a Makita 4340CT jig-saw...

Turn off H/W for Sink... includes pics!!

To reply to both... The old plumbing was a peculiar affair, mainly where a ground floor bathroom extension was added in the 60's which resulted in two draincocks because the extension is 6" below the rest of the house's floor level. Plus extra pipes for stuff that has since been removed...

Turn off H/W for Sink... includes pics!!

I've closed the cold water gate leading to the tank (and stopcock) then drained both the hot (took about 45 secs) & cold taps (took about 5 secs) of water... but when I chopped the hot water pipe below the boiler I still get a small flow of water coming out. Any further suggestions? Thanks...

Want to 'cross-over' hot/cold to switch hot/cold taps around

Hi I previously had the hot pipe coming from the boiler at ground level, (left to right) and the cold pipe just above it. These then turned upwards to the sink taps, resulting in the cold on the left (i.e. the 'inner' pipe) and the hot on the right ('outer' pipe). This can be seen here...
