Is this a bad time of the year to hire a roofer?

I'm struggling to get Someone to quote for a job. So I'm thinking of covering up the walls and waiting until spring. So thought I'd ask if that's a mistake? Cheers.

    Cost of meter move.

By the way if anyone knows what I need to do to the keep water out of an in cavity meter box that would be handy in case we can move it. I assume dpc and weep holes like above a window but suspect that's too simple?

    Cost of meter move.

Can you have it in a kitchen cupboard?

    Cost of meter move.

Well I assume they will cut into the cable just in front of the house (if that's how it works) and take it about 2 metres to the side of the house. Was going to do it because it's better outside than in. But not if it's going to cost more than my car!

    Cost of meter move.

Got someone from UK power coming to look at moving the box. He said a rough price estimate was £6,000! That would include digging and traffic management which I know we don't need but that's a massive amount. The last quote I had for just a disconnect a reconnect was about £1,000. Have prices...

When a wall needs to be lightweight blocks downstairs and concrete upstairs?

As you mentioned a dpc will separate them. Also I think I've seen ex-met in the bed joints between the different blocks to help this. Not sure it's the answer but I think it might be.

When a wall needs to be lightweight blocks downstairs and concrete upstairs?

Just a word of caution, and I'm no expert but I've heard that if you have different materials on an internal cavity wall then moisture can collect in the cavity. If it's different on both sides of the cavity I mean.

    Philmac coupler assembly?

Thanks. I'm just glad nothings missing. It's going into copper that's slightly bigger than 15mm and nothing else seems to fit. I bought it a year ago for £30! They've got teeth at both ends now I take it then? Cheers.

    Philmac coupler assembly?

Just wondered if anyone's got any experience with these. I've got to fit one to get the water back on. I've had it a while so want to check it's all there and that I've got it in the right order. I'll attach a picture. Thanks if you can help.

Thank you people. I'm about to do a thread on philmac fittings. If anyone has an idea that would be very handy. Cheers.

Can you have a boiler near the gas meter?

I had a better measure up today. Not quite as wide as I thought but lots of height due to outside ground being low. So the box can be low and still above dpc. So am I right in thinking the boiler could go directly above the meter if needs be? Cheers.

Anybody use lime with lightweight blocks?

I keep reading that you should add lime for a 5 or 6:1:1 mix. I've never done it but wonder if I'm missing a trick?

Can you have a boiler near the gas meter?

Sorry I didn't know you were still talking. I've got a bit of room to play with and the box will be lower than the boiler I should think so I assume that will add distance. Also does anyone know if this needs a membrane that goes behind the box and tucks under the lintel or a dpc above the...

Can you have a boiler near the gas meter?

Hello, id like to place the boiler and meter as close as possible (on each side of a cavity wall). So I wondered if anyone knows if there's a minimum measurement they have to be apart? Cheers

Do you think this should have an expansion joint?

    How come there's 3 joints in a 14m wall?

Anyone got a Travis Perkins account?

Yeah I will thanks. There was a time my local TP beat any other prices by miles.

Anyone got a Travis Perkins account?

Yes I agree. I have an account with a local small firm who aren't too bad but will sneak prices up if they can. I lost my one with Jewson as the plant hire manager took liberties too many times and I refused to pay all the bill.
