Replacing single ceiling rose with 3 IKEA LV lights

Hi all, I am about to replace the light on my stairs and landing and would like to check that what I am proposing is safe and sensible. Currently there is a single rose and flex with a 100w bulb controlled by three switches (2 upstairs and 1 downstairs). I would like to replace the flex and...

    100-240V~ Is it OK ?

I am about to buy a camera charging lead from the USA. Please can someone confirm for me that the text "100-240V~" means that it will work correctly over the whole range of that voltage. Ie here in the UK as well as over in the USA. Thanks

    cavity wall insulation

Does anyone else agree or dispute this comment above. I have been quoted £320 by a firm called "Millfold" to cavity fill my 4 detached house. My dining room, for example, has 3 external walls and is like a fridge. :( Cheers, Oscar

    Tripping mcb problem

I have been doing some more fault finding and have found a possible problem in the wiring from the CU to the lights. The wires on the left come from the CU (top) & to a single pole switch (bottom), the wire on the right goes to the lights. The switched live goes to what I think is neutral...

    Tripping mcb problem

The supply is either TN-C-S or TN-S, I can't see which without taking bits apart. Looking at the pictures on this forum, it's definately not TT. I will try isolating one of the strip lights to see if that fixes it. The thing that I am still not understanding at the moment is why a...

    Tripping mcb problem

I have just confirmed that all neutrals go to the rcd side. Noting Securespark's comment about 2 rcd, I thought that the switch on the left was just a main switch but on inspection it may be a type of rcd. The figures are difficult to read but I can make out the following markings: DOJ, 80A...

    halogen lights not working

Emma, If you have changed all the bulbs then it can really only be the transformer or the power to it. Test the supply and if it is ok then your transformer is bust ! Oscar

    Tripping mcb problem

It is a 80A, 30mA RCD and the lights are 2 x 40w strip lights.

    Tripping mcb problem

I am having problems with an intermittant fault on one of my lighting circuits. One of the 6A mcb has garage lights connected to it (3rd mcb from the left in the picture). As I hope you can see, the mcb is on the non rcd side of the distribution box. The trouble is that often when the light...

    Types of MCB ?

I have a CU fitted with "Vinckier M6 Type 2" MCBs and I want to add a "Vinckier Type B" MCB to a spare way on the RCD side of the CU. I don't know what the significance of the "Type 2" & "Type B" are. Are these two: a. the same ? or b. compatable ? Thanks in advance.

The supply is either TN-C-S or TN-S. I can't see which without taking stuff out.
