Is there a standard for self tapping screws.

I ordered some countersunk self tapping stainless screws from eBay and for the same identity number, they are thinner than Spax wood screws, hence is there a universal standard for screws or do different manufacturers use a different standard, or is there a different standard for different types...

Anyone know what the traffic is normally like on Christmas Day?

I left at 6.45 am, and there was very little traffic all the way, the density hardly changed all the way, however there was more traffic in the anti-clockwise direction on the M25, ie towards London Airport, but again not excessive. EDIT: traveled back on Sunday 9 Jan, leaving at 8 am and there...

Is the arm on the ball valve for the cold water tank the same as on the central heating header tank

I seem to remember that they were different. There was a leak, but I am not sure which one, as the overflow pipes are next to one another. I am away from home so want to order the ball valve to be delivered as I am self isolating. I turned off the mains before leaving.

Thanks, amazingly there are no planned M4 closures over Christmas and New Year, but they restart on the 7 January!

Looking for an automatic without a footrest by the brake

My car had a foot rest by the clutch pedal, and having long legs, it was uncomfortable for me, so I just removed it as it was only held in by a couple of screws. It is unlikely that they will mould the body to provide a foot rest, so check it out.

Please recommend a non-contact voltage detector pen

Thanks guys, for your replies. I have lost the supply to my night storage radiators, although the general supply to the property is fine, and I was anticipating a problem getting the supplier to come out as they had recently fitted a new meter. Consequently, I was looking for a device to...

Please recommend a non-contact voltage detector pen

Please recommend a non-contact voltage detector pen that I can use to check for live cables in UK domestic situation, ie 240 volts AC, AND possibly low voltage DC, eg 12 volt car or lower voltage battery operated items? Am I expecting too much to detect 240 V AC and 12 V DC? Will they detect...

What functions does a radio need so that I can listen to an internet station

Other than wi-fi what else do I need to look for in the spec? How does it search for stations, will it have an address bar to search for stations like a computer? I am a totally ignorant of how these things work.

What functions does a radio need so that I can listen to an internet station

Perhaps that’s a good reason not to buy a DAB/internet radio.

What functions does a radio need so that I can listen to an internet station

Thanks very much for the explanation. I see that some radios have Spotify Connect, is that a “portal” like those that you referred to?

No supply, is it a supply problem or the Elster A1140 meter

I have done an edit clarifying my previous post. EDIT: there is also the supply to the meter from the supply phase for the “normal” electricity, that also passes through this meter to the “normal” consumer unit.

No supply, is it a supply problem or the Elster A1140 meter

Yes, I have several “normal” electric fires that I am using and a bathroom infa red heater. Yes, you are probably right, it will be interesting to see what they do about the charges. The meter was supposed to have been read last week, but even if it was working then, we don’t think anyone came...

No supply, is it a supply problem or the Elster A1140 meter

Yes, I don’t know when either of them failed, I have been away for a while and when I returned the heating was off, but I don’t think that it had been off for more than a few days as the place was cold but warmer than outside. So that’s when I noticed that the meter was not working. The...

How to get Eon to replace their faulty equipment?

Thanks, however the 02476 192000 is not Eon, it is a Facilitator Company who work for Eon, but I spoke to an English lady who was most helpful, who put me through to a helpful Eon English guy who gave me the number of the Appointments Booking Team. The first time I rang the phone went dead...

No supply, is it a supply problem or the Elster A1140 meter

Thanks, yes the meter appears to be totally dead. I eventually spoke to 3 English people and got some sense, the last one said that the meter is faulty. Eon or a representative is coming in 2 weeks to change the meter and hopefully the Contactor if it is faulty. I note that according to the...
