How to get Eon to replace their faulty equipment?

A UK Power Networks electrician says the Proteus Heating Contactor, that Eon fitted between the meter and the consumer unit is faulty. Eon do not appear to have a phone number dedicated to electrical faults, and it appears that you have to go through their general enquiries phone number, ie for...

No supply, is it a supply problem or the Elster A1140 meter

I have a 3 phase supply at my property, one for the normal electricity, another for the night storage heaters and the third is not in use. Yesterday I came home to find no heating AND the Elster A1140 meter digital-display is blank, ie not working. Is it possible that the meter is faulty and...

How far should I drive to charge the battery?

I have been self isolating for a year and only used the car for about 6 very short journeys. I have also run the engine at about 1500 rpm for 12/15 mins every 2 weeks. A week ago, I think it just about started when I went for my 2nd vaccine. I want to leave at 6 am one morning to go on...

What’s is like to drive and own a Bentley?

Derrick the boss of Mathewsons, said on Bangers and Cash that everyone should at some stage in life own a Bentley. You can buy a 1990s Bentley for around £10,000 from Mathewsons. I could probably afford to own one for a year, consequently I wonder what they are like to own and drive, although...

Recommend a product to dissolve a toilet blockage?

The water in the toilet rises up when I flush it and on standing the water has a slight brown tinge to it, consequently I assume that a stool is stuck over the top of the U bend. I don’t want to plunge it out as it may get stuck somewhere else. Wikihow.com says use an Enzyme to dissolve a...

Who to use for an asbestos survey?

You could ask your local council, I wanted a reputable company to sort my woodworm in the loft, I rang the local council and they wouldn’t recommend a company but told me the company that they use, so ask your local council who they use, as they would only use a reputable company.

Can you watch live TV, BBC etc, on a 30 yo TV without a Freeview tuner?

Ah but although I’m not religious “Lead us not unto temptation”, so if it means going into the loft to be able to watch TV then it puts a bit of a barrier there, although funnily enough, once you stop watching TV, you don’t know what’s on, so there isn’t much of a temptation. Yes you’re right...

Can you watch live TV, BBC etc, on a 30 yo TV without a Freeview tuner?

Yes, but they last for ever, no problems with that 14” Sony, a 27” Sony could have lasted 30 years before I believe the on/off switch failed(I replaced it with a Sony wide screen TV about 10 years ago) and my parents 27” Sony is still working after about 25/30 years. That replaced a broken 5 yo...

Can you watch live TV, BBC etc, on a 30 yo TV without a Freeview tuner?

Ah, so your saying that my 14 Sony TV in analogue, so it can’t interpret modern TV signals? I didn’t realise that the type of signal had changed. No, not watching any live TV or iPlayer, only listen to radio and read internet newspapers.

Can you watch live TV, BBC etc, on a 30 yo TV without a Freeview tuner?

I am trying to live without watching live TV, have stopped paying the licence fee, have informed TV Licensing, and I have disconnected the TVs AND the aerial from the aerial cabling, hence there will be no signal at the household aerial cable outlets. However, I have a 30 yo 14” Sony Trinitron...

    Will my shocker suddenly fail?

Thanks, the gaiter is shredded and there were slithers of it all over the shocker and spring. It is definitely a piece of the gaiter and unlikely to be from the innards of the shocker because it was initially about 25 mm long before I pulled on it. For the last 3 years, I have had an advisory...

    Will my shocker suddenly fail?

The gaiters on the rear shockers of my 1998 Corolla have perished and are almost nonexistent, and a piece of the rubber gaiter is sticking out of the shocker body where the piston goes in, I have removed what I can but the bit left is not long enough to grip. The car bounces 1.5 times when the...

    Thermal warm liners

I don't know what insulating material they use now, but they used to use polystyrene and best to avoid that as if there is a fire, loads of choking smoke is produced.

    Moved radiator and missing wallpaper.

I did that after I removed an electric doorbell, I took a piece of the wallpaper to B&Q and got a colour match for a few pounds, it didn't look too bad. It was not a perfect colour match, so you would probably be better off going to a proper paint supplier.
