Zone valve not working - heating stays on tho timer and thermostat 'off'

Sorry Stem - when CH on all day it was because I advanced the timer. CH should've gone off at 10pm and/or when room stat not calling for heat, but I woke up half cooked at midnight! Thanks Terry - will try 3 in 1 on spindle - but it is pointing down so relying on capillary action not gravity...

Zone valve not working - heating stays on tho timer and thermostat 'off'

Hmm, having read some other posts, think it is part gravity and part pumped (not sure if this makes a difference)

Zone valve not working - heating stays on tho timer and thermostat 'off'

I have a gravity fed central heating system with a new condensing boiler that was fitted a few months ago and the whole system was power flushed. Since then the rads have been much hotter (toasty :)). But now the heating sometimes stays on, even though the room stat is satisfied, and/or when...

Black muck in my kitchen gully

I found a couple of drops of tea tree oil (which is antibacterial) is a cheap and easy way to stop the smell in an outside drain.

Leggy seedlings - bury deep but that'll bury the baby leaves

Hi folks Some lovage and licorice seedlings are very leggy. On youtube I saw all sorts of leggy seedlings being repotted deep, because the stems can become roots. Bit those examples had the baby leaves high up, near the true leaves. My licorice has the baby leaves at soil level then spindley...

Packed crud and grease or remains of a fibre washer round shredder drive shaft

Ooops! I thought 'wonder what will happen if I feed in this stump that is about as big as the letter box will take, with this stub sticking out'. o_O Still, could be worse - a tree surgeon friend fed his Silky into their industrial chippero_Oo_O

Packed crud and grease or remains of a fibre washer round shredder drive shaft

Thank you John. All re-greased and reassembled, and blow me - it works. And diynot.com rocks as a community of experts that's saved me from having to trash this much-loved shredder.

Packed crud and grease or remains of a fibre washer round shredder drive shaft

Thanks to good advice the shredder hopper is mended and reassembled :) But while I've got the business end of the shredder open, thought I'd inspect the drive shaft. There's a recess round the drive shaft that is partly filled with something. Can't work out if it was a fibre washer, or grease...

How to get molded plastic shredder hopper back into shape

Car wasn't hot enough, but careful play of hot air gun on lower setting did the trick. All assembled nicely. Thanks for your help guys.

How to get molded plastic shredder hopper back into shape

How to get molded plastic shredder hopper back into shape

Btw, when the hopper got bent out of shape it had been in the hot sun all day, then 'set' in the forced, wrong shape. That was on the hottest day last week. Not forecast to be that hot again :(

How to get molded plastic shredder hopper back into shape

So I finally worked out how to get the hopper off the garden shredder. Now I need to get it back to original shape. Boiling water isn't doing it. It's molded black plastic. Friends are saying use a hot air gun, but surely this'll risk heating the surface too much? I want to know if I can...

How to get hopper off Bosch garden shredder

Tigercubrider - yes, you are right. There are (very) hidden screws. I took it apart again and found them. Now I just need a 25cm screwdriver! Thanks for your help:)

How to get hopper off Bosch garden shredder

Curious. Can only find a serial number, no Maker's name or Model Nr. Did find identical shredder in a YouTube vid called 'European 2400W'. Also found an Aldi Gardenline which looks v similar (the collection box is a different colour) but can't find any diagrams for any of them. There were 4...

How to get hopper off Bosch garden shredder

That's what I thought, but couldn't see anything. I've taken all the other bits apart - but nothing revealed fixing screws for hopper.

How to get hopper off Bosch garden shredder

A branch with a side stub dragged the lower part of the hopper in. In the photo, the bit my first finger is pointing to should be tucked under the piece my thumb is on. Anyone know how to get the top part of the hopper off so I can straighten out the lower piece? Thanks Mary

    Immersion heater died?

Well I do know the difference, so your disbelief is entirely appropriate. Better criticism would have been that I couldn't remember the name for the Fused Spur Unit. But then maybe you don't know what it's like to have a poor memory.

    Immersion heater died?

Thanks John, yes I am too waiting for a caning. But let's address that. I have rewired a cottage in Wales, replaced an immersion heater, been a site's 'emergency sparks' in that every time the power tripped they got me to sort it (this was in parallel to going round nagging every one about not...

    Immersion heater died?

Thanks John, not patronising but good details. Can I check: 1. When water in tank is cold, flip circuit breaker in CU for thermostat 2. Remove cover from thermostat, check temp is set to 60 deg. 3. If there's a reset button, unflip circuit breaker. Press reset button (am presuming it's not...
