    Our Cyberman is leaking

Well, thats why my wife is calling it - and she is petrified :D I *think* this is quite new leakage as I've not noticed it in nearly 2 years since we have lived here - but maybe I just never thought anything of it. The unit is stone cold at the moment and most of the leakage is hard/brittle...

    Boiler stability

yeah I might have another round of balancing. I went around last year trying to get about 15 drop but it was really hard to get a big drop while still actually getting flow through the radiator, and as rads turn on and off that all goes to cock anyway :D

    Boiler stability

I have a microcontroller (ESP32) that has a couple of temp probes connected to it and attached to the flow and return pipes (as well as a pressure sensor on the flow pipe, and also a connection to a current transformer so I can measure electrical power usage). It sends the data over wifi (by...

    Boiler stability

good point, there are a few rads without TRVs - towel rails, one in the room with a wall stat, but those are all quite small radiators. I'll see what effect having more radiators on has

    Boiler stability

I have a Worcester Highflow 440CDi and have added some temp sensors to the flow/return pipes for monitoring purposes (or geeky interest - whichever :D). Here is a graph from last night... Dark blue - flow, light blue - return It is currently set to 60C flow temp which it holds very well...

    LED light installation

yes I am aware of that, but when I was looking there didn't seem to be anything reasonably priced at the higher voltage for individually addressable LEDS. What I have ended up with is 4 feeds from the power supply to points along the strip in 1.5mm² cable. In reality, it is never going to draw...

    LED light installation

I've been having a read through some other threads and yeah it seems a labelled socket on the lighting cct would be ok. I'll have a root around if its preferable to connect to the lighting cct - its a bit more of a wriggle through the eaves storage areas to get to the lighting circuits whereas...

    LED light installation

I can probably find one, its just quite close to a wall socket in the dormer which would be handy, and I was also a bit unsure about connecting a USB supply/adapter onto the lighting circuit as I'm sure I cant just add a 13A socket?

    LED light installation

I've installed some LED strips on a ceiling but power supply is currently in the "prototype stage" in the eaves above that room and just looking for any advice on the best permanent solution. The controller is 5V very low power USB connection, it controls a relay that turns on the power to a...

    external water pipes and tap

In our "new to us" house there is an external building, the water supply to it comes out through the house wall in 15mm plastic, converted into blue pipe which then goes under the garden a bit before getting to the other building. Is this ok as it is? I might put some insulation and hard...

    One pipe system

I moved into a house last year with a mix of 1 pipe (most of downstairs) and 2 pipe (all upstairs and 1 rad downstairs) - all the one pipe rads were very slow to warm up even if I turned off the two pipe rads which might have shunted the flow. One big problem with my layout was the rads were...

    Worcester high flow 440 fault

Ha, my emergency gas man from the insurers has arrived..." Oh, this is not a common boiler". Great, he hasn't a clue. Looked, prodded, "probably the PCB". Changed the fuses that I had tested and now gone, guess I'll see him in a week with a new PCB

    Worcester high flow 440 fault

My boiler has gone on the blink! The power light next to the boiler on/off switch comes on, and the timer built into the boiler panel has power, but there are no other signs of life - no red lights, nothing on the two digit display etc. I've checked the two fuses (ok) I can see but think there...

    Conservatory box gutter

thanks - can you be a bit more precise as to which one you think is damaged? Is it on the bottom row or higher up? I can try and get a closer picture if I know where I'm looking. Nothing obvious to me higher up the roof, maybe need another check in a downpour to confirm though. Light rain...

    Conservatory box gutter

So its still dripping again today :( A few more leaves fallen but nothing to clog it up. Here is a photo looking along the gutter from the end. I think the leak is coming from the tiled roof side rather than the conservatory roof side of the gutter. The roof felt is not going into the gutter all...

    Conservatory box gutter

Cheers. I've managed to clear it all out now so we'll see what happens. I had to make a 6" wide bit of wood to push and pull all the debris to each end, there was a lot of sludge and leaves so hopefully that has helped - I'd say it hasn't been cleared for a few years (like all the gutters around...

    Conservatory box gutter

Managed to get all the cables out and rerouted the two sat dish cables around the other side of the house so it's just leaves and sludge I need to sort out now. Got some drain rods to try and clear the gutter but the twisty prong attachment has only cleared maybe half the leaves. Is there any...

    Conservatory box gutter

thanks. I didn't measure it, but I reckon its about 6" wide, and maybe 4" deep? I'll check next time I go up. I think its when it gets too high, but never been up while its leaking to see if there is a high level, I wondered if depended on wind direction too? I'll have to see if I can...

    Conservatory box gutter

I occasionally get a leak inside my conservatory - its appears from the plastic panelling over the doors into the main house so presumably coming from the box gutter. It was doing it before the leaves started falling but we had a real downpour this week which led to a very wet floor inside so...

    Patching my wall

ha, no it has no closer on it at the moment hence why it probably gets shut a bit harder that it should do sometimes! It also gets left open at times which winds me up :D I was thinking a door closer that has soft close would solve both issues - are you suggesting they can be bad?
