    Advice for tiling an ensuite

I would be tempted to take the plaster board down and batten out the wall and re-cover with aquapanel. It will only cost a couple of hundred quid and will give you a perfectly flat strong surface to tile on. Trying to bring out the other bits with DnD plasterboard on top will be difficult...

    Indesit intermittently not draining

Got an odd one with my Indesit Washer/Drier. Found all lights flashing the other day and machine full of water. Opened drain plug, emptied machine. Filter was very clean (machine only just over 1 year old). Tried to run drain program and pump just hummed like it was trying to turn. Tried...

Tile primer on Aqua Panel and Mositure Plasterbaord

Data sheet for Rapidset: http://files.building-adhesives.com/pdf/Technical%20Data%20Sheets/B%20&%20C%20Technical%20Data%20Sheets/BAL_Rapidset_Flex.pdf Recommends BAL Prime APD, Bon SBR for the plasterboard. Nothing for the cement boards

    Miele S7260 - Access motor

Does anyone know how to access the motor in a Miele Cat and Dog upright? The bag holder got lost and the bag came off in the housing, all the dust ended up getting past the pre-motor filter and know the motor sounds like it is struggling. Its still under warranty but it is user error I guess.

    Tiling over stainless steel splashback

You would have to check with some adhesive manf. to see if there products are rated for use with SS as a backer, my thoughts would be most wouldn't. How about fixing a cement backer board over the stainless steel? Secure it with an epoxy glue and the tile on the backer board.

    Pipe banging in stud wall

The problem is that as water flows through the pipe, if the pipe isn't held in place securley then it moves and bangs against whatever is next to it. If it has only just started then it is possible that the supply pressure to your house has increased recently which might highlight a problem...

    Pipe banging in stud wall

Mini-resters work great but are only really needed in very high pressure situations. As hertsdrainage has said the pipe needs securing to the wall.

    Kitchen fitting

I've never done an Ikea kitchen so don't know about using legs rather than wall hanging. I wouldn't deviate away from the suppliers instructions too much, because if it fails they wont want to know. Plaster board fittings are not going to be enough to hold these cabinets. As the stud...

    Bumpy Vs Flat

Are we talking floors here? A flat gloss tile is going to be like an ice rink when wet. other than that its personal opinion. Which do you prefer?

40m2 cracked tiles laid on 18mm WBP - wet underfloor heating

Surley it is not upto the archtiect to specify a decoupling layer. That should be the call of the person who laid the tile. There could be any number of issues. If the back and edges of the plywood wasn't sealed when laid it could be absorbing mositure and expanding. The edges of the...

Product for tiling on wooden floors

] When I re-did my bathroom (because all the grout and most of the tiles had cracked) I found the previous yahoo who did the tiling had used 3mm hardboard, shinny side up. Needless to say it took less than 3 minutes to clear the floor of tiles!

    Regrouting Questions

Those grout pens are worse than useless. You need a grout rake, a few quid from Wickes/B & Q. Get the one that looks like a rasp and not the one that looks more like a stanley knife. You basically then spend hours raking out all the grout. Very boring. When it is all done clean and hover...

can I patch new silicone with more silicone

Unfortunatley despite sillicone sticking to most things it doesn't stick to itself very well. Best to remove the area and re-do. Use painters or electrical tape to mask the area so you can a nice clean line. I hate silliconing for this reason, it always seems to go wrong and it is so...

    Reprogramming Nissan Micra ECU

I am not over familiar with Nissans but I am guessing the NATS is an anti-theft device, i.e. an immobilzer. If the key is not coded to the ECU then I am surprised that the car starts at all. Normally immobilzers block the engine from starting or immediatly cut the injectors if the immobilzer...

    Boiler Care Plans

These are all rubbish right? Our boiler recently went wrong, new PCB needed. I have a local independant chap who services it every year and he fixed this issue. Really like using this guy as he is honest, reliable, does good work, and charges a reasonable rate. Would like to keep using...

    Do I need tile trims?

Ceramic tiles generally look better with an edging because they are not the same colour throughout and you can see the glazing. There a lot of options, coloured or white plastics, metals etc. The alternative is to use grout and create a sloped effect with that.
