    What's causing this damp patch?

I think you might be on to something.. I had a poke under the windowsill and some render just fell off revealing a pretty deep hole into the wall, below where the damp patch is so I've now filled it. hopefully that will fix it, thanks for the help

    What's causing this damp patch?

The people upstairs have no signs of damp, and yeah the external wall is rendered. Seems possible that the damp could be travelling through the render but I don't understand why the damp patch is only appearing in the middle of the wall? The whole exterior of the house was re-painted last year...

    What's causing this damp patch?

I live in a basement flat and we've recently started getting a damp patch appearing on a wall at the front bay window, which gets worse when it rains. The rain doesn't actually hit the exterior wall since it's covered by the above flat's window sill, but there's a damp patch in the same place on...

    Bayonet gas fitting

Hi, I'm 90% certain it is but was hoping someone could confirm that this is a bayonet gas fitting (connects to the gas hobs), and is the type that I can safely remove myself? To disconnect I just turn the connection at the grip and pull out? (i'm replacing the cooker) Thanks David.

    Leaking plastic stopcock knob

Hi all, The water pipe going into my dishwasher has a round stopcock / valve on it that is leaking - see attached picture. It looks like the leak is coming from inside the round knob and not from the pipe itself. If this was a metal fixing i'd probably just need to tighten a nut but I'm not...

    Can councils destroy illegal outbuildings?

Besides the fact that no one wants their garden to be overlooked, i just spent my life savings on buying this place, and the garden is a big selling point. Now i've got this big ugly building overlooking it which will affect the value, so i'm losing money i put into it.

    Can councils destroy illegal outbuildings?

So they'll always depend on the owner footing the bill? I've read that violations of planning law aren't usually criminal offences, so there's really nothing stopping him just refusing?

    Can councils destroy illegal outbuildings?

My neighbour has decided to build a large building in his back garden without any planning permission or discussion with me. It covers about 50% of his garden, is right up against the boundaries, is approaching 4m high (and still getting taller), and has windows facing back towards the house...

Could smoke alarm wiring affect water heater?

Yeah, a Horstmann Economy 7 Quartz.... This thing: According to the boiler's manual it takes knows when its off peak because the supplier pipes it through the offpeak supply. I'll read up on this timer's manual, see if there's anything of interest... Thanks for the help.

Could smoke alarm wiring affect water heater?

    1. Can't take it out completely, it's coming from deep within the ceiling. 2. Yeah I realise this but the old ones were broken, and the girlfriend bought battery operated ones so just using them. Can't get a picture right now, but its a standard looking switchboard with a big 'main'...

Could smoke alarm wiring affect water heater?

Hi, I have a water heater (PulsaCoil 2000) that is connected to the off peak power supply, so that the water is only heated when there is off peak electricity coming through. Over the weekend I turned off all power in the flat at the main switch, and unwired the smoke alarms - replacing...
