    New Roof Leaking Water

We are in the process of building a single storey extension. The roof is on and the lead flashing has been fitted. However yesterday we had steady rain and I noticed two dribbles of water coming through the wall and slowly making their way to the ground. I wire brushed off the paint around the...

Can I lock the radiator thermostat?

Sorry for the delay, I killed my iphone some time ago and now use something with no camera.

Can I lock the radiator thermostat?

A child won't leave the thermostat alone in his bedroom. He turns it up to high (5), just because he can. We are foster carers and some children are not able to listen to reasoning, such as it will get very hot and you will burn yourself if you touch it. Is there any way I can set it then lock...

I'm so impressed with your pallet build that I keep looking at the garden and wishing it was bigger. Very nice job. You deserve every compliment that members have thrown at you.

    Any Tips/Secrets/Old Wives' Tales...

That is true, however it means I can take on double the customers, and keep everyone happy. Currently we have two vans working five day a week and a waiting list of new clients.

    Any Tips/Secrets/Old Wives' Tales...

I'm basing my comment the fact that I have a window cleaning business. When I cleaned windows using squeegees, the water always had some detergent in it. Often washing up liquid. On the next visit in a month the glass was clearly dirty and needed a clean. Now both vans are kitted out with water...

    Any Tips/Secrets/Old Wives' Tales...

Cleaning with Deionised water only. All detergents will leave small sticky soap deposits which will attract dirt. Using pure water (deionised) will prevent this and leave the glass cleaner for longer.

    Joist Hanger Nails

I have had the Building Controller around today and he has pointed out that there is only one nail per side through the hangers into the roofing timber. He wants every hole nailed. My question is, Can I use standard galvanized nails or do I need to buy twist nails like the builder used...

Is This Bad And Would You Do It? (Facia Boards)

Never a jet wash. But yes we do use a chemical if it is really bad. In most cases, if you soften the dirt by soaking it with water then get up and wipe it with a micro cloth it tends to come off.

Building control? a nightmare or just unlucky.

I am using such a company and the Building Controller is really approachable and again very sensible in his approach. He calls in when passing and has a chat, quick look around and goes. The build is not complete, but so far, so good.

    Verge Clips

I can't find it now, but it had something to do with H & S I think. It's raining here today and I have noticed a dribble of water dripping off a rafter. So water must be getting through the membrane. I have been up but can't see any tears or holes. Any thoughts?

    Verge Clips

I encountered a problem from the off. I thought I could cut them with small hand held disc cutter but it wasn't up to the job. Being the bank holiday weekend I haven't been able to hire anything. I have since read that you shouldn't use a disc cutter at all,...so not a great start.

    Verge Clips

I was able to buy the required clips at SIG in Exeter this morning. They were very helpful, so it's all good. Or so I thought.... Spoke to the builder this evening and his other job is 'overrunning' he wont get back to me for two to three weeks! So I have a roof that is felted and battened. I...
