Hooking up lamppost to circuit for external wall lamp

Thanks for all the information. I will comply. Would I need to chisel away the render to hide the cable inside? Is there some conduit I could afix to the wall and then render over? I know that the holes in the wall will be at an angle to prevent water ingress. or

Hooking up lamppost to circuit for external wall lamp

When my mum's house was renovated, the wiring was replaced and lamp was added to the exterior of the kitchen wall, with a switch on the inside of the same wall. I've installed a lamp-post at the bottom of the garden and would like it to be controlled via the same switch. If the...

Angle grinder cutting disc contacts safety shield when tight

It's made by Black & Decker and this particular model of angle-grinder had many positive reviews. If I could muster the energy needed to get out of my seat, I could go and check the model, but alas, I cannot! In any case, the blade went through concrete like a hot knife through butter.

Angle grinder cutting disc contacts safety shield when tight

The guard can be placed in four different positions but none of these help gaining clearance. The centre spacer can't be turned over of mine - it needs to be in one orientation to connect. I will not work without a guard. I will try to bend it slightly as TicklyT suggested :)

Angle grinder cutting disc contacts safety shield when tight

Thanks but the only way I can see to stop the guard from touching is to remove the guard entirely. :/

Angle grinder cutting disc contacts safety shield when tight

I bought one of the concrete cutting discs but when fitted to my angle grinder, the side of the blade touches the inside of the safety shield, so the disc cannot rotate freely. The grinding discs that I used previously are shaped in such a way that the cutting edges are further away from the...

How to open OsmaDrain inspection chamber cover?

:P It got dark outside and the cover needs to be cleaned for me to see it properly and I didn't want to wait until tomorrow to find out I'd need to order some tool I don't have. After I remove the screws, is there some special way to prise it out of place so I don't crack it?

How to open OsmaDrain inspection chamber cover?

I would like to open my OsmaDrain inspection chamber cover to see how deep it goes and get an indication whether I can saw and chisel a channel in the concrete over the drains for a length of SWA cable. The cover looks like this. Can anyone advise?

Hard to find a decent tape measure? (specifically, the hook)

Lol! That's pretty much exactly what it's been like every time I've encountered a tape measure! I've been checking every make/model I've come across.

I need a tool for cutting wood

I might be too late to offer my too cents, but just in case... Of course some of the tools suggested by others are ideal for the specific purpose you state but I can understand the attraction to the Dremel tool which can be used for a variety of unspecified purposes. It would be great if we...

Hard to find a decent tape measure? (specifically, the hook)

:D Thanks guys! That explains it! Thank goodness times have moved on since the crap the sold as a tape measure decades ago!

Hard to find a decent tape measure? (specifically, the hook)

Does anyone else agree that the hook at the end of a tape measure should be completely fixed with no play whatsoever? Only my granddad's old tape measure is like this; all other tape measures I've encountered, regardless of price, have a loose hook that will give a slightly different measurement...

ISO advice re: drill to drill-press adapter

Based on Internet reviews of various makes and models of this basic design, I decided to get something which I hope will be more robust. I bought this drill stand by Wolfcraft. I've only used it very little so I'm not yet ready to conclude whether it was a good choice. It cost a bit more than a...

Two spare pieces came with my drill - look like elec contact

I suppose you've already thrown away your old drills but for future reference, rechargeable batteries in many devices can be replaced yourself fairly cheaply. You should use a soldering gun and not a soldering iron and keep the duration of contact to an absolute minimum before playing a wet...

Two spare pieces came with my drill - look like elec contact

They're now labelled and stored! What are the symptoms of a drill whose brushes need to be replaced? Does it stop altogether or start to make a noise or what? Thanks.

Bolts to attach drill vice to drill stand/press?

Thanks, Burnerman. I guess the problem with traditional bolts is that you can't tighten them from one side quite so easily? It seems tee bolts aren't at all easy to get hold of though :(

Bolts to attach drill vice to drill stand/press?

Are some sort of special bolts used to attach drill vices such as this to drill stands?

Digging channel in concrete in garden; route over drains?

I've modified the image to propose two possible alternative routes for the cable which I guess would not require a channel in the areas directly above the drains.
