Angle grinder cutting disc contacts safety shield when tight

I bought one of the concrete cutting discs but when fitted to my angle grinder, the side of the blade touches the inside of the safety shield, so the disc cannot rotate freely. The grinding discs that I used previously are shaped in such a way that the cutting edges are further away from the shield than the centre of the disc but this cutting disc is flat. Should I put something on the axle to separate the blade and shield?

All diamond discs are like that. Adjust the guard and move it a bit.

Thanks but the only way I can see to stop the guard from touching is to remove the guard entirely. :/

Have a fiddle about. Never seen one that can't be adjusted.

Not agood idea if the 'spacer'incorporates the driving dog and/or a centreing spigot.

IME pressed steel guards on angle grinders and the like are no great work of accuracy on the part of the manufacturers. In a similar situation I removed the guard and 'modified' the clearances with a few strokes of a Mk I precision adjuster or Brummagem screwdriver to give the necessary clearance before re-fitting it.

Working without a guard is very dangerous - If it does kick, it will take your fingers off. or if your fingers aren't close enough to be taken off, you won't have sufficient control of the tool to stop twisting enough to leave you staring at the buisness end of a rapidly spinning disc.

The guard can be placed in four different positions but none of these help gaining clearance. The centre spacer can't be turned over of mine - it needs to be in one orientation to connect.

I will not work without a guard. I will try to bend it slightly as TicklyT suggested

No-one's asked which make of grinder you have.....is it a quality one?
Being a smart arse, I used a grinder without its guard once - and it nearly cost me a knuckle.

It's made by Black & Decker and this particular model of angle-grinder had many positive reviews. If I could muster the energy needed to get out of my seat, I could go and check the model, but alas, I cannot! In any case, the blade went through concrete like a hot knife through butter.
