    New floor, spray or not?

Laying new 150x21 redwood t&g flooring in a room which had a (small) woodworm problem. All the old infected wood/joists have gone and all new and original joists liberally sprayed twice with Cuprinol 5 Star complete wood treatment. I've insulated between the joists with 50mm Recticle and a...

    Floor joists dpm ?

Replacing rotted floor on mid victorian ground floor. Reason for rot was damp plus blocked airways. My question is the wallplate/board that the joists sit on is totally gone and being replaced. the small wall it sat upon has slate laid along it a a dpm. I'm thinking I may use black plastic...

    Old & new floorboards

We're having to replace a section of floor and joists due to rot caused by blocked air brick + leaking window cill. The old floorboards are pine 4" t&g and just under 1" thick 20mm exactly new 100cm boards are 19mm thick. Should I just not worry and rely on a sander to even things out? Or is...

    stove and chimney

Your problem definitely sounds like an air supply problem so checking out the air wash controls should sort it out. Have you made any changes to either the air supply for example blocking airbricks or fitting double-glazing. We once had a big old monster of a stove that starting behaving in a...

    condensing boiler. air intake question.

I have a lovely view of it (the flue & conservatory) whilst I'm in the bathroom and it always worries me that it doesn't look right. We had a nasty incident down this way a few years back when some kids surfing died spending the night n a van with a gas fire on & it's always played on my mind.

    condensing boiler. air intake question.

Pretty obvious really, I cannot understand why that wasn't fitted straight away. I found out now that the glass (?) panel directly above the outlet was removed at the time of fitting. I guess this must have been done to comply with regs at the time, I'm pretty sure that the roof is now twin...

How does it work when a boiler is installed inside with a pipe up through the roof>

    condensing boiler. air intake question.

Is there anywhere online I can show him as I hadn't realised that the boiler was renewed the same time as ours under British Gas improvement scheme. I'm in danger of appearing a noesy old wa###r who lives over the back. What bothers me is students live there and simply block up the vent as...

    condensing boiler. air intake question.

Right from what I can gather the intention was/is that the existing flue would be boxed in with the rop open thefefore the 'flue' will 'still be external'. They havent done this, instead they have fitted the 'correct sized' air vent 'always open' inside the conservatory. Perhaps you can gather...

    condensing boiler. air intake question.

Am I right to conclude that even if the flue is boxed in it'll still be wrong. It would be easier to raise the subject with them if I could say you'd be better getting it done sooner than later as its not right.

    condensing boiler. air intake question.

yes its similar set-up to the photo, from what I can gather the conservatory has been fitted after the boiler, it's not mine but one that we overlook. I think there was an intention to 'box-in' the flue when the new boiler has been fitted but its not been done yet.

    condensing boiler. air intake question.

If a conservatory is fitted to a wall that has a condensing boiler vent passing through it then a 90-degree upwards turn terminating approx 1.5 meters above the conservatory. The boiler was fitted before the conservatory and the flue hasn't been altered apart from a gasket through the...

Chimney on a single storey extension - facing neighbour

Have you already got a fire/stove which you have used? only looking at your neighbours chimneys and their extended height you may have trouble getting a good 'draw' and have to extend your proposed flue. That's not a problem using double skin stainless, if I were you I would seek advice from...

    Existing loft conversion + stairlift

Thanks tony1851, I thought that was the case. As the proposed chair will be a full swivel, when it is at the top it would be swivelled to face onto the main landing, and, as I gather it doesn't fold up when in that position, it will be a bit like leaving a simple office chair at the top of the...

    Is this right?

Thanks for the reply, all the walls are lime plaster over brick and stone. There is no plasterboard in the ground floor. am I right in thinking that the fact the walls 'earth' is not a serious problem? I've tested the walls with a specialist damp-meter and there is no cause for concern there.
