    old immersion heater circuit

I guess it fails current regulations having the upstairs sockets and the shower on the non RCD side. Never really looked at it in detail before till today. Should probably get that sorted one day. But back to the original question - non-RCD so needs to be an RCD socket in the loft. We already...

    old immersion heater circuit

It's an electric shower. How do I figure out which is the RCD side...

    old immersion heater circuit

Don't think so. It's on the right hand side of my RCD on the consumer unit which I'm fairly sure is the unprotected side. Right hand side has: Heating/Freezer, Lights, Immersion, Upstairs Sockets, Shower. Left hand side has: conservatory wiring, outside garage light, garage, downstairs...

    old immersion heater circuit

Last year we had a combi installed, so the 30+ year old system of tank/hot water cylinder was removed leaving us with a nice empty big airing cupboard at the top of the stairs I'm currently in the process of sorting out with shelving etc. It's got me wondering what we should do with the old...

    boiler pressure paranoia

I had a new boiler fitted last December, a combi to replace an ancient gravity fed system. I read lots of horror stories about old systems possibly springing leaks due to the increased pressure, also I have a mild form of OCD which means I can't stop monitoring it. It was set at 1.2 bar...

What’s your opinion on this BG boiler quote?

Had my boiler replaced in December, BG quote was £4500. Local independent I went for did the lot for just over £1800, and did an excellent job.

Orange water flowing up in subfloor

Interesting. I drive past the Delph a lot (usually in a crawl queuing to get on the M60), and always thought I should get out one day and have a look around.

Orange water flowing up in subfloor

Is this the reason all the canals round Worsley are orange? Always wondered about that https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@53.4952348,-2.3713881,1826m/data=!3m1!1e3

    Center room thermostat EHE0200361 misbehaving

Just one zone and 9 rads, and they all get hot very quick. I'll leave it on default. Every 10 mins the same cycle repeats. Fires 2-3 mins, pump remains running a further 2 mins, 5 mins off.

Combi boiler pressure drops when turn on hot water tap

Mine (not a Worcester) does exactly the same, and I think it's down to the following... Your system water is normally in the loop 3-4-5-6 in the above diagram, and the pressure gauge is telling you the static pressure of the water in that closed loop. When you turn on the hot water tap, the...

Been told I need a new boiler...?

I was in a similar situation back in December and did a lot of research into which boiler to go for. I agree that some installers seem to favour particular makes, a lot of times because they are accredited installers for that manufacturer. The chaps I went for in the end did it properly in my...

cold water tap turns itself off

If only they were brass. They're "chrome", (well, some bits are plastic but painted to look like chrome!)

cold water tap turns itself off

My own fault for buying the cheapest B+Q had to offer, but didn't have much choice when the water was off on a Sunday morning whilst I had to get replacements. Reading the reviews on the website, lots of people also suffer from the same symptom of the cold turning off after a few seconds so it...

    Center room thermostat EHE0200361 misbehaving

What will this achieve? I've had mine since December and it worked very well at the default settings of 1 min / 6 cycles, but I'm always on the lookout for improvements!

cold water tap turns itself off

Thought so :( Why would this happen? If the tap valve is open enough to let 20 litres/min flow out, what would make it stop flowing?? I would have thought the pressure of the water through it would have been enough to keep it forced open compared to anything like gravity or whatever is...

    homeplug compatibility av200 to av600

I've used homeplugs for many many years now, got 5 x av200s around the house. One of them has finally died so was looking for a replacement, and av200s are no more, but I was pleased to read that they are all backwards compatible... From the FAQ... TP-LINK AV200, AV500, AV600 Powerline...

cold water tap turns itself off

Was wondering if someone can clear up a little mystery for me. After having a burst pipe in the bathroom under the basin last week, I replaced it and took the opportunity to replace the taps as well. Since then all has been fine, but I've noticed when I turn the tap on enough for it to be at...

turning off water when on holiday?

My stopcock is a ball valve (lever arm type), so quite easy to turn off these days. My previous one never actually stopped the water.

turning off water when on holiday?

Yep, it scared me quite frankly seeing how much water got over my bathroom floor and that was in the space of 2 minutes from me hearing the pop, hearing a spraying noise, getting out of bed and getting down to the stopcock. I did once get back from holiday in the summer to find the patio quite...

turning off water when on holiday?

When I was a kid (many years ago), my parents and everyone else always seemed to turn their water off when they went on holiday. No one ever does now. I had a flexible hose in the bathroom burst last week unexpectedly, so I'm starting to wonder now if I should be turning off the water when I...
