Fixing a 75mm fence post to a brick wall

I need to fix a couple of 75mm x 75mm fence posts to a brick wall. I've read some recommendations for thunderbolts. What length of bolt would I need to get a good strong fix? I've also seen hex head bolts in screwfix - would they also do the job?

    Painting a picket fence

This is probably a really stupid question but anyway... I've got a new picket fence arriving soon which I will prime and undercoat and then gloss white. I have a tin of standard dulux gloss in the shed - can I use this or should I get some Weathershield exterior gloss? Thanks.

    White wooden picket fence

Anyone know where I can buy a white wooden picket fence? I've searched for ages on the internet plus in garden centres around where I live and can't find any! I didn't think it would be this difficult to find! The only alternative is to buy a stained wooden picket fence and paint it white...

Refurbish or replace engineered wood floor?

Renovating a flat at the moment. It has an engineered pine wood floor down in the bedroom and lounge. The previous owners didn't take good care of it - lots of paint, deep scrathes, scuffs and grime on it. I'd originally planned to rip the floor out and put a nice new dark oak floor down...

    Gliddens Contract Matt

Renovating a flat and planning to paint walls and ceiling white. I've read Gliddens Contract Matt is a good trade white paint to use, especially to cover over bright colours. Just wondering, does it provide a good finish as a top coat or should I use another paint for the final coat?

    Damp in socket

Yeah I will look into where the damp is coming from but I was just wondering what to do in the short term? Thanks for the info rebuke. I hadn't thought it out very well. Would it be OK to fit the new socket as long as it is properly earthed from the back box to the socket? Just in the short...

    Damp in socket

Hi I've been changing the switches and sockets in our house that we've just bought as I decorate each room. Just on the last room and I've unscrewed a double socket which is on the inside of an external facing wall and there are drips of condensation on the back box. The wall around the...

    New downlights - flickering

Yesterday, I installed a new 300W electronic dimmer which controlled 6 low voltage downlights. All was fine. Today, I've changed the downlights to 6 new 50W mains voltage downlights. However, one of the bulbs is now flickering. I've tried changing the bulb but doesn't make a difference. Could...

    Brown patches after satinwood dried

I bought some Dulux Jasmine White satinwood from B&Q the other day and wanted a 2.5l can so had to get it mixed at the time. I've put one coat on the skirting and it's now dried. In some areas, light brown patches have formed and in other areas, it's just dried white whereas it should be a...

    Painting Stairs

I've just painted my bedroom floor white with Farrow & Ball floor paint. It looks great although time will tell how hard wearing it is. Thinking of doing the stairs white too. Out of interest Stoyer, did you have to fill some gaps on the stairs and if so, what did you use? I used decorators...

    How many coats of undercoat?

I'm going to paint some woodwork with oil-based eggshell. I've used it before and put 1 coat of undercoat on before 2 coats of the eggshell. But I've seen quite a few people say they put 2 coats of undercoat on and then 1 top coat. Is that method preferable? And if so, why? Thanks.

    Acrylic based satin emulsion

ok thanks. no it's not bare plaster, just painting over an old white coat which i think was eggshell too. some of the original coat has peeled off though back to the plaster - i presume this is because the previous owners didn't let the plaster dry properly before they painted? i have peeled...
