    Caliper bolts sheared (Ed.)

As they snapped off in the first place, they ain’t coming out without a fight! John

    New axle

Two issues come to mind here, regarding the noise. 1) The spring is settling down on its top mounting 2) If the power steering is electric and the wheels have been turned by hand with the engine off the steering pump makes horrible noises for a while, eventually bleeding itself. Either way I’d...

    New axle

It sounds like the wishbones I guess - they have rubber mountings at each end. The steering shouldn't be affected but the tracking should be checked. John :)

    New axle

We need a little more info, Trevor......are you talking wheel hubs here? What vehicle is it? Anyhow, if suspension or steering has been disturbed, then a tracking set is highly recommended. John :)

    Car wishbone problem

Has the car any history of collision in the past? Here's hoping the wishbone was of good OE quality when it was replaced........Febi Bilstein maybe, not some rubbish hewn from old railway lines! That's probably what the main dealer is going on about. The car needs to be set up on a laser...

    Toilet soil pipe connection

Your advice is never poor, HJ! Much rather the opposite. A very interesting topic too - if only I'd known about that connector a couple of years ago when I faced this very issue - twice! Regards John :)

Carwow. Too good to be true?

I used Carwow to dispose (if that's the correct term) of my 65 Plate Skoda Yeti, Outdoor, 2 litre CR diesel. 45k, perfect, no history but many receipts. I bought it in the January with 19 miles on the clock - pre registered. It cost me 19 grand (maybe a little more - no records). Purchased in...

    Caliper bolts sheared (Ed.)

Very bad luck......these bolts suffer from electrolytic corrosion, have locking compound on the threads and are very tight. I very much doubt if you'll shift them now, and I'd be investigating a replacement hub here unfortunately. I don't think any extractor would work here. Heat is essential...

Identifying which car these brake pads fit

There's a fair bit of material left on that pad, and the rust on the surface could indicate it's lain there for a while. A bit bemused by this one! John :)

Identifying which car these brake pads fit

the brake pads can only escape if there has been some serious dismantling going on, and one caliper would have departed from its mounting. There would be no braking on one side, and the pedal would hit the floor. Comments please? John :)

    HT lead keeps coming off

Just a point to ponder, but Fords of this era with the Zetec engine were prone to the ingress of water through the bonnet louvre......soaking the plugs and filling the void with water! This also had the effect of rusting the plugs big time. John

Identifying which car these brake pads fit

Don't worry - they aren't yours! If they were, you'd know about it! John :)

Do I need to change the tyres

These tyre inflator attachments rely on a good contact with the valve, courtesy of the rubber seal in the attachment. This part does degrade fairly quickly! I prefer the push on inflator but still use a digital gauge that is replaced frequently. John :)

Anyone know anything about sand blasting cabinets?

With sand blasting, you need a huge CFM of air.......the pressure of it is secondary so you'll need a huge reservoir to cope with that. On occasion when I use my needle descaler the compressor (14 cfm, 100l tank) is running almost constantly so like me, it gets hot and bothered. Unfortunately I...

How to calculate correct tyre pressures?

I don’t know of any such formula Harry, but 36 psi sounds ridiculous and the ride, because of the lack of weight will be most uncomfortable. However I reckon 10 psi is too low and you run the risk of the tyre coming off the rim.....I guess the tyres are tubeless? You also risk sidewall splitting...

    HT lead keeps coming off

Are these pattern leads, Mr C? Maybe the genuine Ford parts would be a better bet! John

Van's lights and wipers wont turn off

I think you could do yourself and your van a big fat favour by cleaning out that battery compartment, getting it dry ( and keeping it that way) and going over each and every multiplug connectors.....especially those which are going green! Give the connectors a spray with electrical contact...

Mysterious leak from plastic fuel tank.

What would the MOT testers say about a fuel tank with patches? I've used many sealants / repair kits on motocross bikes with plastic tanks - none lasted very long. John :)

Do I need to change the tyres

They are very close to the legal limit, looking at the wear indicator blocks. I’d replace them rather than have the balancing cost to consider. They are legal, but expect an advisory note....why wait? John
