The front left and right axles have been changed on my van.

I get a little stiffness when I turn the wheel more sharply.

Does this mean I now need the tracking resetting? It wasn’t reset by the mobile mechanic who did it.

We need a little more info, Trevor......are you talking wheel hubs here?
What vehicle is it?
Anyhow, if suspension or steering has been disturbed, then a tracking set is highly recommended.
John :)

It sounds like the wishbones I guess - they have rubber mountings at each end.
The steering shouldn't be affected but the tracking should be checked.
John :)

I'm not quite sure what is meant by front axles. What van out of interest?

I agree with Burnerman, it sounds like wishbones have been replaced.

Shouldn't affect the tracking if they were identical quality parts, but get the tracking checked.

Were they changed because of the stiffness on turning? If not, get the fitting rechecked. If it's an issue that has only arisen since the fitting, then something isn't right. If it was there before, then it sounds like a different issue, maybe top mounts.

On full lock or near it and on both sides the steering clicked and creaked. This has now gone. So the axel’s were replaced both sides.

But I am getting a slightly different sound and I was thinking it is down to the tracking

Two issues come to mind here, regarding the noise.
1) The spring is settling down on its top mounting
2) If the power steering is electric and the wheels have been turned by hand with the engine off the steering pump makes horrible noises for a while, eventually bleeding itself.
Either way I’d forget about it for now, but get the checking tracked when you can. Vehicles in general aren’t tracked often enough!

Yes it might be the steering which needs to bleed. I haven’t driven much since it was done. Will get it retracted

Burnerman is spot on with his comments.

But I'm still not sure what you mean by "the front axles".

Also not sure if the issue was there before the change, or not

Shouldn't be causing any noise or stiffness then.

Try bleeding the power steering, but if that doesn't cure it, get it checked. was the issue there before you started?

The front axles left and right were replaced plus the collars which are rubber

And what do you mean by the rubber collars ?

On the end which attaches to the wheel. Forget the name of it. The rubber section waterproofs the bearing connection on the shaft I think

Why did you change the driveshafts?

Unusual to need 1, let alone 2 .

Have you had an issue with steering and stiffness and noise? Or it only occurred since changing these ?

They were changed because it creaked when turning left or right on full lock or a tight circle.

That issue has been fixed now. I think the issue is the power steering needs to be used and the balancing
