Water level in toilet bowl higher than usual, then lower than usual

So about a week ago, I noticed that the water level in our downstairs toilet was higher than usual. Coincidentally, this was the same day that the flush in one of our upstairs toilets stopped working due to a disintegrated washer. I figured that it was probably due to the kids being...

Are most domestic toilet siphons 1.5" or 2" connections? Or is there wide variance?

Thankyou! Final dumb question - the rubber doughnut in a close-coupling seal kit sandwiches between the metal plate and the toilet bowl, not between the plate and the cistern?

Are most domestic toilet siphons 1.5" or 2" connections? Or is there wide variance?

OK, turns out the hole in the cistern is 2" but the siphon outlet is 1.5" ID. Looks like the flange and washer on the siphon itself take care of filling the gap? I won't need to buy any other kind of adapter?

Photo below. Not sure how helpful it is, if at all.

Are most domestic toilet siphons 1.5" or 2" connections? Or is there wide variance?

I've never done any toilet DIY before, but I need to replace a siphon in a close-coupled cistern. Googling around, none of the usual DIY suppliers seem to indicate whether their siphons are for 1.5" or 2" connections, but most of the close-coupling kits with sealing rings seem to be for 1.5"...

Key works perfectly outside, won't turn inside

This lock has been getting progressively more unreliable, to the point where now we can't unlock it from inside, the key will only turn a few degrees. From outside, the key works as smooth as glass with no resistance whatsoever. Is it fixable in a way that allows us to keep using the existing keys?

Need help with a mystery outflow on rear wall of house

Thanks all - so does this likely mean the PRV needs replacing? I'd hope that such a new cylinder wouldn't have any more serious issues.

Need help with a mystery outflow on rear wall of house

Yes, there's a drip through the tundish. As mentioned above, the cylinder was only replaced about 18 months ago as the final solution to a problem that started with us noticing a rushing water noise. That's when we first discovered what a tundish was - there was a proper stream of water...

Need help with a mystery outflow on rear wall of house

Bingo! There's a drip through the tundish. That's annoying, as the cylinder was only replaced about 18 months ago.

Need help with a mystery outflow on rear wall of house

To the right of the window marked "Toilet/bathroom", and several feet away from the outside wall. The foot of the bath is under the bottom of that window, the cylinder is roughly where the head of the bath is (pointing towards the front of the house). The bath is currently in use, so will post...

Need help with a mystery outflow on rear wall of house

Here's the back of the house. Next door has a corresponding outflow on their side of the fence, which is completely dry underneath. No erosion on the paving under our outflow. We don't have any tanks in the loft. This is our hot water cylinder, on the landing next to the bathroom: I...

Need help with a mystery outflow on rear wall of house

It's 32mm. There's nothing on the other side of the wall at that point - the piping that leads to it is inside the wall. It's the back wall of the conservatory - nowhere near a boiler or WC. The conservatory opens off the kitchen, but that part of the wall is diagonally opposite where all the...

Need help with a mystery outflow on rear wall of house

Our neighbour asked - very nicely - if we had some kind of outflow on the back of house, because he was seeing water seeping under the fence. I looked behind a large heavy wooden settee thing that hasn't been moved in a couple of years and saw this: It's dripping very slightly, but...

Problem with floor-standing fan AFTER replacing capacitor

Capacitor is brand new and exact same value as the old one - 450V 1.0uF. And I'm interested to know what could be causing it to *intermittently* suffer starting issues. Although short of stripping the entire motor down, I suspect that won't be easy to ascertain, given that the capacitor is the...

Problem with floor-standing fan AFTER replacing capacitor

Our floor-standing bedroom fan was displaying the classic symptoms of a bad capacitor, so I replaced it. Unfortunately, that hasn't fixed the problem - or at least, it hasn't fixed it permanently. Sometimes when you switch it on, it will start perfectly normally. Other times, the blades will...

Rad balancing order when multiple rads are stone cold?

We have three rads that remain more-or-less stone cold (and they're full of water, they don't need bleeding) while some others are very hot and others just warm. I've read up on the technique for balancing and the need to make a list of the order in which the rads warm up, because that's the...

Plastic twisty part of themostatic rad valve is broken - can I just pop it off?

Difference of opinion there between durhamplumber and Rob - can I use a generic head, or does it need to be a specific Drayton head? Just looking at the way the heads are advertised, and the reviews people have left on sites like Amazon, it seems like they're universal and intended to be used...
