New Boiler advice and misc questions

Are you saying that even at a flow rate of 16L/Min on a combi-boiler I still won't be able to run 2 decent showers simultaneously ? Any way of having a hot water storage tank with a Combi ?

    Roofing advice

We are just planing an extension to our house, above and behind the garage which is attached. The extension is approx 2.9m wide and 9m long. I would like to continue the existing roof line accross to make it more pleasing on the eye. Do we have to get W-Fink trusses or can we get a builder...

House extension - new electrical installations

Does it have to be inspected and tested ? Would the Pro not have to carry out some inspections and tests after fitting a new board ?

House extension - new electrical installations

We have to gain Building Regulations approval for the extension anyway so they will be visiting on a regular basis, they may as well inspect the electrical work as well.

House extension - new electrical installations

Having done a fair bit of searching and reading on the Part P regulations in various posts on this site, I would just like to confirm a few things. We have just submitted plans to our local planning office for a extension to our house above and behind our garage. I plan on managing contractors...

    Wetroom style bathroom and shower-room

When we come to re-do our bathroom it would be nice to make it into a wetroom. By this I mean with a tiled floor and tiles right up the walls, any excess water on the floor would run into a drain in the corner. Has anyone done this and how have they achieved it ? (In particular how to...

    Removing silicone sealant

I have just had to remove old silicone from around my bath and tiles. I found the best method was to us a window scraper (the type for removing paint with a stanley blade integrated). It removed the cr@p in no-time. I then finished off with a spot of turps on a rag.

New Boiler advice and misc questions

We currently have a 3 bedroom detached house with double glazing, loft insulation but NO cavity wall insulation. Our gas boiler is a 16 year old Myson rated at 55,000 BTU. We are planning an extension which will add an additional 2 bedrooms, larger kitchen and a garage conversion to a clinic...

    Very noisy toilet when flushed

Is that because something is worn, i.e now 15 years old and due for replacement ? I am also getting a small leak from the overflow outside and also from the fitting where the overflow pipe enters the bottom of the toilet. It's a Armitage Shanks toilet if that makes any difference. A US...

    Very noisy toilet when flushed

Recently our upstairs toilet makes a very loud noise about 5-10 seconds after flushing. It shounds just like a large ship's fog-horn sort of a large paaarppppp. It is very loud throughout the house and means we can't flush it when the kids are asleep. Any suggestions ?
