    WHAT CONTACTOR IS THIS ?

My money is on it being Klockner Moeller. Regardless, you need to know the size of the unit being controlled in Kw and the control voltage of the coil. A contactor from any mainstream manufacturer will do the job, don't forget you also need to buy the auxiliary contacts, as can be seen on...

    Studwork corners...

Many thanks for the replies. Total beginner at studwork, didn't cross my mind how the plasterboard was going to fix on the internal. At least I now know how to mod it, thanks again.

    Studwork corners...

Hi all, I have constructed some studwork which includes a 90 deg corner. It has now dawned on me, however, that plasterboarding the internal corner will be a problem since there are no vertical studs to fix to. I have one vertical stud on the corner but have made this flush with the external...

    Making good

Rightly or wrongly I used bonding coat in my last house to fill the chases flush. Once dry this shrinks very slightly to allow some kind of skim finish. I emulsioned afterwards, no sign of cracks or anything eight years on.

    wiring appliances in kitchens

I favour FCU's above the worktop feeding an unswitched single socket behind the appliance. The problem with flex outlets is that you have no option but to cut the plug off the lead which invalidates the warranty of the appliance in most cases.

Fixing the end of joists to a wall....

Cracked it, thanks for the guide. It was one of these - would this be ok nailed to the wall? Or are they stronger screwed?

Fixing the end of joists to a wall....

I just knew the link wasn't going to work. How do you attach pictures? It was a 'speedy joist hanger standard leg'.

Fixing the end of joists to a wall....

Not quite, it looks like you build these into the wall during construction of the wall. My wall already exists, slightly misleading having re-read my OP, but looking at the other hangers in the range would I be ok to use one of these

Fixing the end of joists to a wall....

HI all, I want to make a cupboard in the void above the stair well, accessed from from a bedroom. The access side will be studwork, whereas the back of the cupboard will be a brick load bearing wall - the other bedroom. How do I fix the ends of the joists that will form the cupboard floor...

New waste connection to an existing soil pipe...

Thanks Softus, is it a genuine fitting or is it a 'cut + paste' picture  Seriously though, this looks to be the sort of thing I need, assume I could swap the top elbow for a tee as I will have a waste pipe from both sides.

New waste connection to an existing soil pipe...

Hi all, I am converting the old outside toilet into an internal cloakroom. At the moment there is an elbow out the back of the toilet down into the sewer pipe. I now need to route the kitchen waste and cloakroom sink into this pipe. How can I best acheive this? Are such fittings /...

Advice Needed Re Damp In My Mum and Dad's House

Woody's right - its up to the potential buyers to prove you have got damp rather than your parents proving they haven't. The problem with the damp specialist, as others have noted, is that he will turn up with a so called damp meter, which is actually an electrical conductivity meter, talk a...

    Timber for studwork

Hi all, I ordered some 4" * 2" timber for some studwork. The wood they delivered was planed smooth with round edges - perfectly ok for the job - though I just wondered whether I have ordered the right stuff so I know for next time. The studwork I have seen elsewhere was much rougher with...

    Which block?

I want to block up an existing doorway in a load bearing wall. Would I be ok to use thermalite blocks as I have enough of these available without buying something different. What, generally, are the rules on when you would use a concrete block as opposed to a thermalite block? Many thanks.
