    small storage heater

Hello Thanks for your reply. I have not bought a 0.85kw one yet, but I think I would need it on full. I'm just checking what is the best thing to do. I am at home most days, so switching it on and off is not a problem.

    small storage heater

Hello Sorry if this has been listed before, but I'm looking for advice on a small storage heater. I'm a pensioner and last year I had storage heaters fitted by a qualified electrician, onto their own circuit. All my night time electricity is cheap rate. My problem is that my livingroom is not...

    bungalow ch pipework

For someone who doesn't know about these things, I thought it seemed a good idea to save work. I'm just going to have to spend the weekend under the floorboards. Thanks very much for your help.

    bungalow ch pipework

I'm working under the floorboards, upgrading the lagging to my ch pipework to radiators. The layout in the bungalow involves some very long feed and return pipe runs in a U shape system. (rectangular shaped bungalow.) I'm no expert, so I'm interested to know what people think of converting it...

    Leaking floor

Thanks for the advice. Are there any web sites that explain how to fit a new shower room tiled floor? I'm going to have a go at doing it myself in about a week's time, when our visitors have left.

    Leaking floor

I don't think so, because the waste pipe is on the far side to the hallway. The shower room floor itself doesn't seem too firm, so I think that's where the problem is. Thanks for your help.

    Leaking floor

I have moved into a house with a separate, walk-in shower room, about 1.2 metres square. It has a tiled floor. The shower room in on the ground floor, which has wooden floorboards. My problem is that the flooring is leaking, so that the hallway carpet gets very wet. Can I put some sort of...

small window in concrete block wall of outbuilding

Hi The inside is about 90" at the back and 80" high at the front, with a pitched roof. The concrete blocks seem about 17" x 8.5" x 4.5". The walls are one block thick, with render outside and plaster inside. I suppose I'd like the window to be about 5.5' high, which would be either two or...

small window in concrete block wall of outbuilding

I have an outbuilding about 12' square that is built from concrete blocks and rendered outside. Is it safe to knock out a concrete block to create a small window that I could build a wooden frame for? Or possibly knock out two separate blocks, each on different walls? Thanks for your help.

    roof replacement of out house

I've just got in. Thanks for the helpful posts. The present roof is sloping (pent) and has two rafters and one cross beam, propped up. It's 4 x 2 timber. Am I right in thinking that I need 50 x 175, which is about 2"x6" for the rafters. The walls are very sound. One last thing - it's a stand...

    roof replacement of out house

Thanks for your reply. All the roof timbers are rotten and have woodworm. As you can see, I'm not sure how to build a framework to support the new roof, or what materials it should be covered with. I would like it to be really weatherproof, if I'm hoping to fit it out as a workshop. Thanks...

    roof replacement of out house

Thanks for your quick responses. I'm not sure if it is asbestos - it could just be very old fibre material. What I was wondering was if I could cover the area with say 4 x 2 rafters and noggins ? and whether they would be strong enough to support some areas of safety glass. I'm keen on DIY...

    roof replacement of out house

I have an old brick built out house with a leaking corrugated (asbestos?) roof. It's about 12 feet square and the roof has a slight slope. The walls are sound. I would like to convert it into a DIY workshop. What is the best way for me to put a new roof on? Can I put glass in the roof to...
