    Walko work benches/stations

Has anyone any experience with these? http://www.walko.nl/producten.html I started out looking for an alternative to a B&D workmate, and just started going higher and higher in the price stakes. These appear cheaper than Festool, and possibly more versatile. Just wondered if...

    Paint Coverage

It was, i don't know how much of a base you need to put onto the bare plaster. If you can go mist coat straight to 1/2 coats of final colour then that's great.

    Paint Coverage

We're painting newly plastered walls and ceilings and have a couple of questions about paint coverage. 1. So far we were planning on doing the following coats onto the plaster: - 1 mist coat of Gliddens contract matt - 1 full coat of Gliddens - 2 full coats of Dulux trade colour (a...

Boiler gas inlet 22mm vs 15mm - why?

Chatting to our plumber today and he said he'd noticed how "European" boilers (ATAG, Viessmann, Vailant) all have 15mm gas inlets, but Worchester Bosch has 22mm. Why? Could it be that on the continent mains gas is supplied at a higher pressure, so 15mm is sufficient?

    Undercoat on Dulux Trade paint

I'm painting fresh plastered walls. I'll mist coat using cheap Gliddens white emulsion before doing the top coat in decent colour. The only reason I thought an undercoat was needed was because the Dulux colour guide mentions it below each colour swatch without details of when one is...

    Undercoat on Dulux Trade paint

Under each colour in the "Dulux Trade Professional Colour Guide" it specifies a colour of undercoat. It seems silly, but is this a requirement? Dulux Trade don't seem to stock "Silver Grey" undercoat as a standard premixed colour. Am I going to have to pay through the nose for colour...

20mm oval conduit & metal back boxes

Hi, I'm moving a light switch in my hallway and am having issues marrying the 1G 25mm metal backbox (with circular rubber grommet) to the 20mm oval conduit. With liberal use of some pliers and a bit of shoving I can force the conduit in. However I was wondering if there was a better...

Dot and Dab cement board (hardie)

I'll do my best with the tile lines, using 300x600 tiles should reduce the number of grout lines anyway! 80Kg of BAL SPF is sitting downstairs :)

Dot and Dab cement board (hardie)

Some quick pics of the room in it's current state. Next job is to build the boxing for the soil pipe and at the end of the bath. It's easier to make out the through fixings in the last pic. Each 1200x800 board had 5x3 fixings in it

Dot and Dab cement board (hardie)

The Dot and Dabs are only there to level the boards and hold them there long enough to through fix them. I've DnD'd the whole room now, and through fixed at ~250mm centres with 80mm through fixings - a total of ~200 fixings and about a day and a half hammer drilling! I only had 1 dab fail...

Dot and Dab cement board (hardie)

Cheers, I've stuck an off cut to the wall downstairs as my test piece so I should know when it's hard. I'll leave it until 4.

Dot and Dab cement board (hardie)

First wall is on... How long should I leave the adhesive to dry before drilling the holes for the through fixings?

    Hardest DIY jobs

That's not too bad. Add and extra switch though (3 way switching) and that can start to play with your head! Rendering/plastering is my Achilles heel. Woodwork is ok but I'm really slow - measuring 3 times etc!

    Tiling 30x60cm bathroom tiles

Thanks for your replies. In terms of tiling speed I think I'll be quite slow. Like SherlockHolmes' fat man, but one with asthma. We're going to have a border around the room so I'll remember to let that all cure before moving higher. How bigger trowel would you say? Walls and Floors seem...

    Tiling 30x60cm bathroom tiles

I shall soon be tiling my new bathroom - 30x60cm tiles onto hardiboard. Just got a some (alot) of questions: If I'm not concerned with the curing time (I'm not in a massive rush) do I need BALs "rapidset flexible" over "single part flexible". Should I be concerned about tiles not...
