Chatting to our plumber today and he said he'd noticed how "European" boilers (ATAG, Viessmann, Vailant) all have 15mm gas inlets, but Worchester Bosch has 22mm.

Why?

Could it be that on the continent mains gas is supplied at a higher pressure, so 15mm is sufficient?

no as they are designed for uk market and thus needs to be set for our market reason is their cheaper boiler so some cost are cut and having small restriction next to boiler will not make much problem as long as the rest is done correctly

So the manufacturer can make more profit.

WB 18 RI has a 22mm/3/4" gas inlet connection wherby the ecotec 831 uses a 15mm gas inlet , further restricted by the service valve supplied , all very strange.

Dont you think that a 15mm inlet connection will be cheaper for the manufacturers than a 22 mm?

More brass equals more cash!

Well in London anyway!

my answer would be "to promote appropriate gas pipe sizing"

thats a polite way of saying that manufacturers think installers are idiots and cant size a pipe, so they have to "suggest" one for them  Don't blame them tbh, the amount of undersize pipes you see about

Viessmann has 22 mm gas connection.
WB is European too.
There are virtually no boilers made in this country any more; a few obscure makes, and the rest is imported or "at best" assembled here.
