    Tile Adhesive for 300mmx400mm tiles

I used that on ours, and also had plaster walls. I got Primer G from screwfix and rollered a coat of that on everything just as a precaution on the plasterboard (not sure if it needs it or not). But I would prime it in case :) The Primer G is I think an Arcylic/resin based sealer. PVA is...

    Tile Adhesive for 300mmx400mm tiles

Use a Cement based Powder adhesive :) I've pretty much used BAL Single Part Flexible White everywhere I've tiled. It's a dream to work with. You just mix it up your self and its reaction based rather than working like the ready mixed ones by water evaporation.

Can't remove shower faceplate and don't know what make it is

What's confusing me here Is. Usually the Thermostatic I've been led to believe would be on the lower control, I would have thought. This ones for the temperature, and setting the min/max temps and such? I would have expected the top to just be a mixing Valve, On/Off, controlling flow rate etc.

Can't remove shower faceplate and don't know what make it is

That to me looks like a new cartridge (spindles built in) and also a new handle as the parts sheered off inside. My parents had that happen recently when removing. Sorry to say their old shower was removed and a new one fitted instead because removing the spindle on theirs was not going to...

Turning off hot water (combi-boiler) to work on taps

Well usually you would put them on any outlets ie taps, toilets and the like. Reason being if one causes a problem you don't loose hot/cold to the rest of your house. IE our show is fed from a separate feed than out bath. If one started causing problems I could isolate one and use the other with...

Turning off hot water (combi-boiler) to work on taps

I'd turn off boiler and water inlet to the house. I assume there are no isolators under the tap that you can just localised shut off? If not I suggest when the water is off and the boiler to install a couple :)

    Crimea and Scottish Referenda

I'm not expert and this is probably a stupid reply as i'm not thinking straight and taking 2 mins from a brain ache project but, Scotland is classed as a country. Isn't Crimea like the equivalent of a County (ie Gloucester - on a larger scale) not a county to Ukrane? Or is Ukrane made up of...

Choosing vaillant ecotec 838 or 837

This is useful. I was wondering about eh comfort mode. I cant remember if ours is on or off. We've been renovating for 10 months nearly and I really should check if that's on or off. If it is turned on now, I would be rather confused where that very high bill was coming on. Currently we have...

    Combi-Mate - any good?

Our plumber is Vaillant certified installer. 7 year warranty with our installation :) He recommended a Combimate and its brilliant. Your advise there actually reminded me. He said exactly that, if the house will be empty for a while just take the Siliphos balls out and let them dry, then...

Choosing vaillant ecotec 838 or 837

£500 sounds a bit of an exaggeration, even still the 1/3 with it off. That makes it a £2000 a year bill for just gas....What on earth is he running? Most 3 beds are like £800-£1.2k a year depending on usage. Did he keep the average temp at 45-50C 247 lol? If that's put you off, I'm not sure...

Choosing vaillant ecotec 838 or 837

I believe its 1 electric and 2 standard bathrooms + Kitchen etc? Cloakroom toilet also? Potentially an electric shower (in ensuite?) could be on with that scenario (not affecting boiler water delivery), kitchen sink hot tap, both bathrooms showers and (unlikely) but a WC cloakroom sink...

Choosing vaillant ecotec 838 or 837

I've no experience with it but came across it when looking in to the one we were going to get. What about the 937? http://www.vaillant.co.uk/products/domestic-boilers/combi-boilers/ecotec-plus-937/ Has a hot water store in it? Slightly larger and I don't know a lot on it just I saw...

Choosing vaillant ecotec 838 or 837

I'm not an expert but we had an 837 installed in our 3bed semi with 2 people in. The reason we went up on the spec over a smaller model was the increased flow rates this one went up to, was 9lpm on the lower ones and this was up to 16lpm (water pressure on mains depending). However for a 5...

    Combi-Mate - any good?

Well, we live in an area that's 290 (cant remember the scale name) for the line scale rating. We have been renovating our first house since the end of May last year and brought my parents old kettle over. This area has terrible water. You can descale a kettle, and it be scaled up within 1-2...

New thermostatic shower not getting hot

Have you tried adjusting the Thermostatic Cartridge? They have a pre-set Max temp usually to 38C. But you may find that this was incorrectly set which means even on the dial for the max "Hot" setting it will not allow it to get warm enough. If you check the manual, or look online for your...

External Wall Render + 3mm Plaster finish tile max weight?

Hi there, I'm about to begin tiling the bathroom in our total house renovation. I've unfortuantlly just found out that there are weight limits (probalbly first mess up so far!) the plasterboard walls are 9.5mm with a 3mm skim on them. It's a1970's house. It's quite a complex tile layout...
