Can piers be tied rather than built into walls?

I would not trust nibs....I assume they are timy bits of wall left to carry the door? I honestly thought that I needed these piers to stabilise everything and carry the ends of the roller shutter which is bound to be heavy? The walls are all single skin brick. At the moment, this part of the...

How do I repair a corrugated flat roof?

Ok thank you. I had a feeling it might be standardised but when I do some internet shopping, there did not seem to be any dimensions given for these peaks and troughs. Good thing I asked!!

Advice pls: Earth retaining wall repairs

Structural Engineer, got it. I knew there was a specialist of some kind for this job but did not know the title. I will find one. Thank you. I will stick some pics up tomorrow, there are cracks appearing to about 10mm and the wall is misaligned along these cracks by about 5-8mm already. I would...

Hi all, I hope someone could point me in the right direction with this: Our house is built on the side of a slope. We have a road at the front, we are downhill of it. There is a "stage" of earth at the road's height paved in brick. This is our car parking area or "drive" it is surrounded on...

BAL Bond SBR for dusty concrete workshop floor?

Hi all, I have a concrete floor laid in a workshop about 5 months ago. It is about 3mx5m and dusts really badly. Can I sweep, use BAL Bond SBR to seal the floor? I understand that an SBR primer is better than PVA but can't see this particular use mentioned o n the bottles nor the site for this...

Is this sealed ceiling OK to build?

Would that not stop air circulation? Because the joists are closed off with noggins, I thought I might sealing each " box" (made up of two noggins between two joists) with the ceiling board? I was wondering if circulation is important and if it can be restored by drilling two 25mm holes into...

Is this sealed ceiling OK to build?

By this description, mine will be similar to the cold roof, but it has no ceiling or insulation. Perimeter sealed: the edge of the roof meeting the walls are sealed water tight by way of osb boards and UPVC fascia boards. Unlike a corrugated roof in another garage which has open air gaps...

Is this sealed ceiling OK to build?

Thanks for your reply. There's the potential for a lot of light; two tube lights and windows. Installing a white ceiling would provide provide a good reflective surface to make the best use of all this light? I was told once that applying chipboard as a ceiling would cause damp or...

Is this sealed ceiling OK to build?

Hi all, I have an EPDM flat roof in my new workshop. The perimeter of the roof is sealed against the elements. EPDM is laid on 18mm OSB. Joists run the 5m length and noggins in place in between. The roof with the current joists and noggins exposed is affecting light levels. I was thinking of...

Stopping damp in concrete single leaf walls?

That makes sense. I was looking at a similar product called STORMDRY. Same chemicals ans idea but thought it was something sold specifically to relieve idiots of their money (me). Will reconsider. I saw damp patches after the last rain and noticed how the damp patch didn't show on the brick...

Stopping damp in concrete single leaf walls?

Hi all, I think I am going to get damp coming through the single leaf workshop wall. It will be from driving rain/wind I should think. Can I render only the inside, possibly with the stuff used to cement swimming pools and water tanks? I thought this would allow the wall to breath on the...

An effective and long lasting sealant for epdm roof

In this case the trims and foam came separate with instructions to put them together before installation (Permaroof). My loss. Thanks v much for the reference, I will get my MIT's on gutter sealant. I can't remove the trims, so I slap on as much as possible on the joints.

An effective and long lasting sealant for epdm roof

Exactly. These upstands were laid after the epdm went down. But a pack of foam seal that ws supposed to go between tue upstand and roof was overlooked. Now, there is a 3 or 4mm gap between them which will allow the water to go through and stain the walls or worse. I was hoping to get a...
