Can cables go at angle relative to roof joists?

This is neat, shame that the cable tray would squash the insulation on modern installations. I guess the solution would be to fix wood spacers on the trusses to raise the trays above the insulation.

Can cables go at angle relative to roof joists?

That is exactly the kind of mess I am trying to avoid! No, now I think that the best way is a combination of the shorter cable runs at an angle with being fixed to the wood 'guides'. Also, the wood guides will keep the cables above the first layer of insulation and the wood guide will create...

Can cables go at angle relative to roof joists?

I am already using a bigger cable, instead of 1mm clable for the lighting circuits, I am using 1.5mm. Also, it is widely accepted that fixing the cable to wood runs helps in reducing the problem of cable in modern thick insulaton. I guess the alternative would be to lay the cable above the...

Can cables go at angle relative to roof joists?

Thanks all for the feed-back. I like the idea of running a strip of wood over the joists and then fixing the cable to it. About preventing a future owner from boarding the loft, this is exactly what I would want to do. If somebody wants to board the joists it means they want to use the roof...

Can cables go at angle relative to roof joists?

There is one thing I cannot find in the 17th edition of the wiring regulations about permitted cable zones. In order to reduce 'cable mileage' (and voltage drop) I am thinking of running some cables in the empty roof spaces of my house above the joists and at an angle, like from corner to corner...

Towell rails bound to heat less than radiators?

I see the problem, my bathroom is largish so I may have to install a radiator instead

Towell rails bound to heat less than radiators?

Hello, I did the calculations to install heaters in my home and the bathrooom came up as 670-900 watts. The towel rails barely reach the 600 watt mark. Is it generally accepted that using a towel rail, instead of a panel radiator in a bathroom it will give less heat as it is not a room...

Can put step under window for fire esacape?

I am refurbishing a property where I am changing all the windows. In one room upstairs the height of the window is outside the maximum height (reach), relative to the floor, for fire escape as per the regulations. They put a step, under the window, to reduce the height step-window. Is this...

    Central Heating plan advice wanted

My plumber mentioned this possibility bu he said that this boiler needs a flow of 12.5 litres/minute and the pressure in my house is not brilliant, he measured 10L/min at 1 bar. So he says you can install a boiler as big as you want but it will only use up more gas and will not give you more HW...

    Central Heating plan advice wanted

Thanks, yes it is where I am out of my depth that I am asking for advice. I have already discussed the general pipework with the plumber but I wanted external opinions and advice on the detail. The plumber suggested microbore pipes but I always ask someone else about these. Hepworth claims...

    Central Heating plan advice wanted

Hello, I am planning the piping installation in a house I am refurbishing, see the drawings of it here. I would appreciate feed-back on my plan. Ask any questions you need. Main points: 1- I am only doing the pipework. A Gas Safety plumber will be asked to connect and commission the combi...

Easier to put plasterboard than to plaster?

I talked to them again and they say they would remove all the loose plaster where necessary and stick the new boards to the block wall. I know what you are saying about bringing others to quote but any others that are good are busy doing other jobs and these guys came from family connections...

Easier to put plasterboard than to plaster?

Yes I asked them, they said they would scrape the old plasterboard, (find out if it is loose where they would glue the new one at the same time), and then apply the glue on it. I do not suggest solutions either, I ask them what they will do.

Easier to put plasterboard than to plaster?

I talked some plasterers to help me refurbish a house. They say it will be easier (and cheaper in the end) to put plasterboard on top of the existing plaster than to try and re-plaster. This is because of the state of the existing plaster: there are cracks (not on the block work), paint and...
